My Grandmother just recently died from Malignant Melanoma.....

She always loved to sit on the porch and drink tea......and always told us to never use sun screen cause the chemicals were supposed to give cancer........

Now we use "Ocean Potion Sun Block SPF 50 water/sweat resistent"

It's a shame that you have to lose someone in order to take something serious....

Most think you only have to use it when it gets hot, but it's not the heat, it's the rays......

Hmmm.......did not know about the rays at night time....

I know if you put water on your self or go swimming without water/sweat proof sunscreen, the water acts like a magnifing glass for the rays.....

Also, it would be helpful to wear sunglasses when you can (especial when your driving early in the morning) especially if you wear glasses and/or contacts; If so, then you should wear Prescription Sunglasses when you can.

One warning sign that your getting too much sun, is if you feel that your skin has a tingling (more like a twisting pinch from someone with sharp nails) feeling on it, or you get goosebumps, sometimes called heat prickles....

I don't usually wear sunscreen, because I'm light and I want to be more on the brown side. Also, I don't go outside much anyways. But I'll be more careful now. I always put it on my son.

(my mother tells me to buy selfless tanner, but I'd be so embarrassed to be a black girl who has to buy tanner). If you have any suggestions, let me know.

The only SAFE way to get a tan is through sunless tanners....you could risk going out in the sun without any screen, but I really don't recomend this....

I heard there is a sunscreen that does not interfere with tanning.

You're right, sunscreen dosen't interfere w/ tanning.

I love to hang outside when the sun is high and I wear glasses. I just got an eye exam recently and I am waiting for my new pair of glasses that become shades when  you step outside into the sun.

I heard shea butter was a natural sun screen but when I used it in Hawaii...I think I was cooking more than blocking because after 3 days I had a sun burn on my shoulder...used aloe vera gel to heal it up in just a few days. 

Eventually, I purchased real sun screen but it wasn't waterproof, which I needed because it rained mist everyday on the Big Island and on Oahu it rained on one half of my dorm building( where the entrance was located) it washed right off...u could see it...it look like 4 years worth of Ashiness.

I remember when I first arrived in Australia I didn't think I would need to wear sunscreen like everyone else.  Well a trip to the beach reminded me how wrong I was.  It only took 20 mins for me to burn.  The sunlight is so extreme here.

Becareful of those kind of lenses cause they may change when you don't want them too....(ie store driving....) It can be kinda a problem sometimes but that depends on how your working, like with me working with a chainsaw and I need to see my clear cut I would put on my regular lenses.......but for like quick trips in and out I would use my automatic shade pair, and if I am outside for long periods of time, I would use sunshades........

I am a firm believer in the sunscreen. I keep trying to tell people all around me that we need sunscreen and I too get the laughter. I try to clear the confusion between sun taning lotion and sun screen lotion, no one will listen, they think I am the crazy one. I use a spf of 35 or higher which good for our skin.

I spoke to the doctor and they said the glasses do not become shades inside of cars. It is only effected by UV rays, which most car windows block out to a certain degree.  Regular shades won't work for me...they have to be prescribed.   Also, I believe that if I was working with a chainsaw...prescribed protective goggles may be desired.

 I guess older model Porsche's don't block UV rays then......cause when I had those lenses, they turned on me........(Can't wait till I get the 911 turbo.........when it comes out......)
