Help!

We were stupid enough to let my naturally blonde, 16-year old stepdaughter dye her hair black.  It's been a few months now and we hate it.  She's fine with letting go of it too.  Yipee!

But how?  Her roots are growing in blonde and it looks a mess!

We'd prefer a home remedy, as the salon wants lots of money for the job.
Will peroxide do the trick?
Will it kill her hair and make it fall out?
Will we need to dye it blonde again after it's been bleached?

Thanks.

I thought I posted on this earlier, but I guess not. Anyway, I kind of know what your daughter is going through ..but kind of not. I used to have really light dyed blonde hair, but I thought it would be super cool to dye the tips of it black. It did look absolutely cool, expecially when I had it straight. It was layered and I did it myslef. It didn't look tacky at all. Point is, when I tried getting out the dye, it was hell. First I thought all I had to do was simply remove the color with something such as Colorfix.

Now you can try this, I'm not saying it won't work. My results (even for leaving it on the longest time it reccomended) ..were really, really orange/red. So, of course then I tried to dye over them with a blonde. Ha. It did a little something but you could still tell it wasn't completely blonde. So I got a haircut. (Not much, but to remove a lot of the tips.) Now, I know you don't have this option. ..So, if you really want to try at home ..I guess you could, but if you mess up, it's going to cost you more to get it fixed. Hair color removers (such as Colorfix, or L'Oreal Hair Color Remover) I think run from $10-18. If your daughter has long hair, you'll need 2 kits. Then you'll need to buy the new color she wants ..that ranging from about $3-20, depending on the brand & pricing of where it is where you live, again remember double this if she has long hair.

I guess you could always get her a blonding kit, but a lot of the times they leave you with a very badly orange or yellow colored hair. You can take the risk, spend a little less money and hope things turn out. I know her case I would go to a salon, they can find the color that'll match her roots and make it look good. Although I do know it's hard when you don't have the money. Salons are way too pricey!

I agree with Red Legos and DulcieB.

And do NOT try to use peroxide from your medicine cabinet, bleach from your laundry room, etc.  That will damage your daughter's hair beyond belief!

i went to beauty school, and your best bet is to just go to a salon, you dont want to mess up her hair , and they'll know exactly what to do
