I've started straightening my hair and its giving me split ends. Is there anyway to prevent them and get rid of the ones that I already have.

Split ends are permanent damage and cannot be repaired, only trimmed off. To prevent split ends, you'll want to straighten less often, and use a heat protectant.

Hi anais

I have a question. Even though i don't abuse my hair with heat, could putting gel on the ends cause it to split so much that I need to trim my ends every week? I trim my ends one by one in front of a white light every week because even though it isn't noticeable at all because my hair is not pin straight, I still do not want my hair to get shorter from breakage. I want to flat iron my hair but my weekly splitting is making me reluctant.

Anais is right, the split ends must be trimmed right away (sad to say). And if you want to continue straightening your hair it is crucial that you invest in a good heat protectant like Biosilk eg. right away. Also check to make sure the thermostat on you flat iron isnt to high.
