I just got the kinky twists in my hair over the weekend.  They are pretty small and not tight.  I'm also natural.  I was wondering how long can I leave them in my hair?? The hair stylist said that I can leave them in for up to 4 months, but I find that hard to believe... Does anyone know?

Sounds like we got the same type mine also are the small ones. I plan on leaving mine in for two months because when they start to grow out I do not want my new growth to start twisting  and cause more breakage. I will leave them out for two weeks then put  them back in. I am in to process of learning how to do them, So I can save money, because I chose this route to grow out my hair. I also still wash them weekly. many are told not to because the twsit might slip out, i have not had this problem.

I used to do my own twists and they usually lasted one week, two weeks at the most and that's if I took the time to wrap it every night.

I didn't have any hair added, only my own hair, so that may make a difference.

I'm thinking about getting kinky twist (if i don't visit the domincan salon)...but i'm really not so sure. I think they should only stay in for 2-3 months (at the most) that way your new growth won't twist and you can get about 1 inch of new growth.

Also, I wouldn't get them done really small because like micro braids, they can cause your hair to break off =(

I was thinking of washing them every week or two while I have them in. I don't want to manipulate them too much. I love not having to worry about how I'm going to do my hair this week...

Well my kinky twists have been in for 3 1/2 weeks.  I already have an inch of new growth. They are very light weight, but I'm still a little concerned about them pulling out my edges or doing something damaging to my hair. Is it safe to continue wearing them for another 3 or 4 weeks or do you think that will jeopardize them locking or falling out.  Does anyone know? I had hoped to wear them for 2 months.

Well 2-3 months are the usual for Kinky Twist. You can wear them up until the 3rd month without causing damage as long as you take care of your hair. What you can do and I recommend is to get the hairline/edges/perimeter touched up (redone) therefore you wont have to worry about them pulling or falling out. That actually what one suppose to do with braided styles such as kinky twist, micros, box braids etc. HTH
