to all the beginner DIYers who want to try using linkies on a weft for install: going in is a cinch! taking out is a different story. while the installation of my wefts using microrings was a breeze, i discovered that the removal without assistance was a different story. removal is a pain since both ends of the linkies are attached to your head, and lining up your pliers so it's perfectly up and down is an awkward angle to do to yourself on the back of the head. while i'm sure a person would get used to this after practice, the initial attempt is frustrating and can be a little painful. if your pliers are angled too much, you end up re-folding your links which leaves you no choice but to snip it, and since it's the back of your head, there will probably some of your hair cut in the process. here's my recommendation in picture form:  pull some of your hair (pink) from above the weft over the weft seam's top thread (red) and under the bottom thread. pull some of your hair from behind (blue) the weft seam over the bottom thread. use a microring to gather the top hair, bottom hair, and weft hair. removal will be easier when the time comes and you don't have to do any sewing. ------------- what I'm wearing: 1 pkg 18" DLux SS #2 and protac |

I was looking into trying this myself becuz I currently wear a sewin, but DAYUM! this looks MUCH more complicated than I thought! ------------- -I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away |

it just LOOKS complicated. basically you're just locking the weft down to your head with your own hair. the weaving the strand in and out of the weft just allowed it to lie really really flat to my head for me, but you could easily just have your hair going around the weft.

How many wefts did you install this way? Were any doubled? I ask because I always double my wefts to get the thickness I need and am wondering how this method would be at supporting a double weft.. Also, how long did it take you? ------------- -I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away |

Ive seen it done before, using hair from above the weft and below the weft and secured with the rings. I get it... I'll have to try this out sometime. I never thought of applying the wefts with links. How many links do you use for each weft (approx.)? I would also like to know if you double-wefted any of the wefts... I also need to do this to get enough thickness. Thanks! |

I bet you could sew 2 wefts together and do it. I've thought about doing
this before, but I would imagine you would have to put a lot of links in otherwise it would pull a lot. And it seems like the weft would just be flopping around. Any pictures or anything? |

ITgrrl, Lil'Bohemian: i only used 1 weft per track, but i don't see why you couldn't double the wefts, especially if you added a few more rings. sherrie215: yes, the hair is being woven through the track itself. i only used about 6 rings per track and it held really well to some abusive brushings, washings, and styling (i don't use any products but i do lots of updo's). naked eye: i didn't take any pics since the past few months have been an experimental phase. i used super cheap BSS synth that felt awful after a few days, so i knew i wasn't leaving it in. i wasn't expecting any long-term wear, more of a trial by fire. i bought multiple packs of it since i knew i'd make mistakes and that i'd be experimenting with what method was most comfortable for me. i learned a lot from my experimentation and i'm now ready to invest a bit more of my hard-earned money on this newest obsession. ------------- what I'm wearing: 1 pkg 18" DLux SS #2 and protac |

that's the way to go, it's bad sometimes experimenting with expensive
hair!! But you should take pictures even with experiments!! So we can see  and it makes a good reference to look back at and see how they
compare! |

next chance i get, i can probably whip up/draw some pretty accurate images in photoshop. i may not be an extension master yet, but i excell in digital art.

If you have a set of special opening pliers instead of the normal
ridged-teeth pliers, it's a ton easier. I haven't folded over a single
ring since I got a set. Admittedly, I also do this mostly on -other- people's heads; but with the special pliers, it's easy enough that you can hand them to a friend or SO and have them do it. -Rae ------------- http://www.hairalchemy.net - Hair Alchemy |
