When is the best time to trim?  I plan to dust right after I take out my cornrows from air drying.  I will part into four sections, then section out section by section, and clip just a tad off.  Then I plan on, flat ironing.(I've finally decided to cut blow drying for awhile!)  Any suggestions or tips?

It varies from person to person, but I trim after I've washed, airdried and lightly flat ironed my hair.

I use one of Feye's trimming methods, its a great guide for self trimming.

Oh. I see.  But I cannot use that method because my hair is way too short. I wish I  could get some last minute precautions from you all who  self dust/trim...!!!

That is awesome that you can trim your own hair. Why pay 10-25 (in LA) for a trim when you can do it yourself.

I am curious what flat iron you use. I am in search of a good one that works for natural hair.

Can someone tell me what 'dusting' is?

Dusting is when you lighty, very ligh,t snip your ends .. instead of cutting excessive amounts, which is what a trim is.  When you dust the cut off hair resembles dust particles.  So lighty that you hardly notice a difference..

I currently use a Tigi Hardcore Lil Hottie Flat Iron... it straights SO WELL.  The only thing is.. I flat iron and blow dry my hair..and so I started noticing splits because of the overload in heat..so i've now cut out blow drying, so that should help some.  But as far as a flat iron I think I'll recommend Tigi...the bad part about it is ..it does not have a temp control...If youd like to control it, maybe try a Solia.  I've heard good things..and if you try it..I may just cop out and by me one also

Oh Thank you. So what prep do you use prior to flat iorning?

Solia, who is that by? Can I buy it online? Also how much does it run you? I have heard that a good one can be up to $200 (which is just too much for me).

Sorry for all of the questions, but I am really going to buy these products. I have to learn how to style my own hair before I go off to school in the fall.

.. Well Solia is the company, I believe, and also the name of the Flat Iron.  You can buy it online at http://www.folica.com - http://www.folica.com   It costs about $88.00  A good one can run 200 bucks, but right now the most expensive thing on my list is a blow dryer..I would really like a nice ionic one that doesnt damage.  I enjoy blow drying, but I don't like the effects with the old aged ones(which is what I have, Andis)  Prior to flat ironing, I use Redken Heat Glide, Kera Care Essential Oils, Mango Butter, or KeraCare Creme Press(for the "greasy" pressed look).  I don't use all of those when prepping..but I use at least one or two.  One day it may be Essential Oils and Mango Butter for the ends, and another it'll be Heat Glide with Essential Oils.  I usually always incorporate essential oils, though. and don't worry about the questions and long posts.  I usually post a book's worth of questions!  And I'm not ashamed, I just want to be informed.
