Ok, since my hair got sadly chopped off (which I never wanted) I decided on the first day there was no way I was ever wearing it down until it grew at least to my shoulders. It's about 1-1½ inches above. So I finally figured a way to keep it up (or most of it anyway) and now I just need to know about what I should use to hold it up. It's going to be up for months, I just want to keep it healthy until it grows out.

I read on HairBoutique http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip100025.htm - '17 Ponytail Tips'  that ponytails should always be secured with hair friendly elastics or clips. That was #4. So instead of using just regular hair elastics/bands * http://www.mmhairfashions.com/images/Elastic_Bands_Ouchless.jpg - these * (without the little metal thing) should I use something like these? * http://www.sephora.com/assets/dyn/product/P34109/P34109_hero.jpg - click * The regular ones seem to leave a big 'dent' in my hair if I have them in for long peroids of time, the little elastic ones don't look as if they do that much. Plus, the little ones don't pull out any hair when I take them out like the big ones do.

You may not be so well off with either of those elastic varieties.

Honestly, I think scrunchies are the least damaging. They divide up the tension over more strappage.

Thanks for the advice.. were you talking about http://www.thesticklady.com/novelties/LongstrethScrunchie_big.jpg - these scrunchies though? I just think those would be awful looking in my hair, simply because my hair is so short. They may not even hold it anyway since they are kind of bulky.. I kind of just hate how they look. They just dont give a classy, stylish look.

Good point... those are kind of bulky. I hadn't thought about bulkiness of the scrunchie vs. the length of the hair.

But it is the least damaging. I think you'll have to choose one or the other.

Best wishes

Definatly go for the elastics... I've never had any problem with them and as you mentioned they are deemed as "damage-proof".  I usually pick them up at the local supermarket for like $2
