I have chin length hair and it takes FOREVER to grow. It's also
thin on the top. My hair has made me extremely depressed and I
refuse to wear a wig. I can cover up my thin hair fairly well
with dark brown brow makeup and would do anything to have more body and
more length. I went to a salon that does hair extensions by
Hairdreams. She said I would be a good candidate and she could
add 12" hair to give me the hair I've always wanted. I really
want to do it, but at the same time, I don't want to damage my natural
hair. She said she used to do weaving and that would damage the
hair, but the new glue method is safe so it won't damage my hair.
Is this true? And how natural does chin length hair look when
this longer layers are added? Will you be able to see my short
length and will it look stupid? Anyone have any before/after
photos from short to long and straight?

If she is good (you should ask to see pictures of her past clients and look
for something similar to what you are going for) you shouldn't be able to
see the difference between your natural hair and the extensions. People
on here have some amazing pictures of clients they have worked on with
hair even shorter than chin-length!
As far as I know, any extension method left in for more than 3 months
can lead to damage, period. As far as I know, weaving isn't nessicarily
more damaging than fusion or hairdreams, it's all about how it's done and
removed and cared for.
I know some other people on here have had hairdreams before, so I will
let them further help you. But I have some pictures from when my hair
was about chin length or shorter. My pictures never show up here, so I am
just putting links!
This is my first install with microlinks, my hair was chin-lenght at the
time:

This is my before picture, the after picture is my avatar. My hair was
about to the bottom of my ear lobes, possibly shorter, it was the shortest
my hair has been with an install:

Here's about how it is now, the before to my next 2 installs:

After (my elite remy and protac install):

And my most recent install (elite, synth, about every type of hair I own
with protacs):

Ok, now that's basically my entire extension career! Hope that
helps you out some! Look at your stylist's pictures, if they don't look
good, go somewhere else, or DIY!! Goodluck!

well let me say that fusion can be very damagin also, if not done correctly. As any method can if not installed, cared for and removed properly.
Also, hairdreams is FAR move expensive than a sewn in weave
A good extensionist doesnt use ONE method fits all. One method is not right for everyone. A good extensionist will determine which method is right for your hair type. But if done correctly you can be given a seamless natural looking head of hair!

I had hair dreams put in over a month ago and i took them out did not like them at all gave me welts on the back of my head and they itched like crazy.was uncomfortable to sleep with at first i thought i just had to get use to them but after a month i still wasnt use to them .But thats just me you may do fine with it. Right now i have jet set extension hair installed with protac tape that you can do yourself and save a bunch of money.

Amen to that! The pro-tac is an excellent option for anyone wanting to do a simple DIY install!

so my stylist gave me a very unflattering assymetrical cut (my fault completely as i always tell him to do "whatever he wants") so i had fusion extensions put in, i dont have a pic of the back straight, but just so you see the miracles that can be done :) this is 16 inch silky straight
Before

After :

Nici-you looked so cute before! I didn't think the hair looked bad at all.
But when I saw your after pictures, I was like OMG, she's gleaming!!!
It's amazing how extensions can change how you feel so much! You look
georg!!!
Amen to pro-tacs. It's so nice to be able to save money, and have control
over your hair! They are so easy, and work so well!!! It's a great way to go!

i really dont think hairdreams would be your best option. They did damage my hair a little when taking them out. I also noticed my hair was a lot thinner when I took them out and I did not see any growth for the 2 months I was wearing them. I would try Protac if I were you. I have read its less damaging and it will be a lot cheaper than the hairdreams.

Everyone seems to think Protac is the best option. Problem is, who in the Seattle area does it? Is that the brand of extension of the type of process?
Naked Eye, I clicked on the links but it said the pics were not available. Nici, your hair looks great!

you can do protac yourself. Protac is a tape and you buy hair on a weft and sandwich it between the tapes and then section your hair and stick the tapes with the wefts to your hair and pull the above layer of your hair over the tapes. You work your way up the head starting at the bottom. There is a demo on shrinkies.net website to help you understand the method.

I have more questions, hope you don't mind
How can I find someone in the Seattle area that could put these tape
hair extensions in? I can't do it myself and I don't know that I
would trust anyone enough to have them do it. Also, if your hair
is highlighted, how do you pick the right color(s)? If it is
taped in, how do you actually comb and style your hair? I would
think a brush would hit the tape so you couldn't comb through.
Thanks in advance!

Honestly DinaJ, its simple enough that my 16 year old can do it. If you dont feel comfortable putting pro-tac in yourself you can enlist the help of a friend (or like alot of the girls...the spouse!)
If you can make a straight part (which doesnt even need to be perfect) and apply a peice of tape...you can do it! And you have an entire support system here to help you through it!
As with any extension method you have to brush a little differently at the bond area. My super looper brush is what I use to brush over my bond area and it works great!
