Hi all, I need a little help....I'm getting some virgin indian that I would like to color to my #5 goldish color....I have been advised not to use a box kit.  Howevevr, I have NO idea howor what to use other then that type of product.  Can anyone help me with a step by step, what stuff to get??  My other alternative is to color my own hair to a #2, which I'm fine with....But again, nervous to do it because over the last few months I have colored my hair numerous times and my ends have turned dark....I'm using dish liquid and or a clarifying shampoo and it is helping to get the build up off.  Either way tho, I have to color something.  Even a link to this info would bereally really helpful....

I don't know if regular box color (which is a single process tint) would lift the hair enough to achieve the color you need.  You may have to bleach it and then tone it if necessary.

this is what I do when I am coloring virgin indian hair.  First I bleach it using a volume 30 and powder bleach.  I like to use Quick Blue from Sally's.  It seems to be the fastest and the most gentle.  It usually take between 20-30mns to come up to a nice light reddish orange.  Yes, I said reddish orange.  I then rinse and wash really good.  I also put conditioner on it, let it set then rinse off.  I then color the hair to the color that I am trying to match.  I like to use ION from sally's also, and I use a Volume 20 developer.  I follow the directions on the box, but I  think that it sits between 20-30 mins.  Then I rinse and condition again.  If you look at the link named Diva hair, it shows that process that the hair went thru, and I colored to a #5copper brown in the end.  I'll try to find it and put it in here.

Also, when if you are coloring your hair, use a protien filler.  It will help keep the color even from root to tip.  YOu can purchase this at Sally's also.

One thing about bleaching the hair, I tend to not use Kalidacolors brand as it is a blue in color and I have trouble seeing just how blond I made the hair.

I have tried to just lighten the hair alone with the lighter hair color, but it wouldn't work.  I have found that you do have to bleach, then color to the color you want.

Oh boy, that really sounds scary to me.  Maybe I'll just darken up my hair.  That would just be a one step process right, no bleaching first?  Do these products at sally's have instructions included, or are you just supposed to know what you are doing before hand?  Protien filler, before, after, or during coloring??

Protien filler, yes at Sally's.  You can do it both ways, I would recommend putting it on the hair first, let it set 20 mins then add teh color.  There are directions on the bottle.  Some hair color does not have any directions, but the ION hair color does.  Just grab the developer, and the color and you are set.

Holler if you need anymore help.  It is quite simple, you just have to experiment.  For me, that is the fun part!!

Ok, I got the color & #20 developer.  I'm actaully gonna do both my hair & the Diva.  Now, heat or no heat, what kind of heat?  When I do my own hair, do I need to cover my head while the color is on?

No heat, unless the box says so.  And no you do not need to cover your head while the color is processing.  What brand did you get?

What color are you going with?

If you are trying to lighten the extension hair, you may want to use heat to help open the cuticle.  I never was able to lift my indian hair just using color alone without bleaching first then depositing color in.

Thanks ladies!!  I got the ion brand you recommended gsmilie.  I got a #2 to darken my hair.  I also put it on the two little wefts of Diva I have right now just to get that more brown tone to it.  While I like the results, it is just a touch dark for me.  I'll wash tomorrow w/ dish soap and that may helpa little.  I am really impressed the ease and quality of the product!!  My hair is super soft, I mean it feels like  baby's hair!!  No kidding!

The wefts are just a shade more brownish brown then the blackish brown they were, if that makes sense....

Oh, I read the rest of the directions and answered my own questions...funny how that works

To Add to your post, I'm new and had a similiar question.  I also purchased virgin indian hair and wanted to highlight it with gold tones.  I don't feel comfortable attempting this myself and I'm very afraid of ruining this expensive hair.

I was interested in finding out if anyone knows where I could send the hair and get the coloring done.  I live in NY if you know of anyone who knows about someplace (local to here) other than that please advise of someone who has experience coloring extensions. What is usually the normal cost for this as well?  Thank you.
