I was wondering if anyone has ever installed protac wefts on someone with oily hair?  If so, how long did they stay in the hair?

I have a girl coming in on Thursday and she says her hair is very oily, yet I really want to try protac on her, since it's the most affordable extension method for her budget.

Thanks!

Metal - my hair is very oily.  The Protac only lasted 2-3 weeks in my hair and that was only with the help of a lot of shrinkies.  After that, the glue on the tape just started getting gummy and breaking down.

Someone else on here posted that if your hair is oily, you should thoroughly wash under the tapes every time you shampoo and then blow dry underneath to make the tapes last longer.

Metagirl for the girls over at BHM they reinforce the protac strips with Liquid Gold glue because of those of us having to use moisturizer in our hair.

neosoulsenhora, im applying a little dab of liquid gold on the end of each row of protac...but how are other people using it? i was wondering if brushing it across the whole length of the tape just before i sandwich it into my hair would keep it there better?

and my protac is getting gummy now too, but it still seems secure...so i'll just be a big ole gummy bear for a little while i hope!

“Cut a strip of tape to fit exactly...  Remove one side of the tape and apply the tape directly on the weft.... Take the other side of the tape backing off... Then brush the LG glue right on top of the tape... Take the whole sticky thing and press onto your HAIR... Hold/press for a minute or so to try and let the glue set... You can also use a blow dryer to help dry the glue but it’s not necessary...” ~ Essence, BHM

You can use "Goo be Gone" on the wefts to get rid of that gummy residue.

hmmmm...I used the LG to 'resandwich' the hair back over the top of the tape on my top row. When it came time to remove I had a nightmare of a time getting that top row out. Actually the wefts slid right out but left the tape and glue in my hair, and it was like cement I tell you!

Now, Ive come to the conclusion that it was because the LG was fresh, and in combo with the tape the bond was still very strong. Under normal circomestance I have no problems removing LG or protac alone. But,  I have found with LG that it does NOT remove easily from my hair when the bond is 'fresh'. I cant remove LG easily until the bond has began to break down...which for me is 6/7 weeks. After the LG is old and the bond is breaking down I have no problems with removal.

I think that the reason LG bonds sostrong in my hair is that my hair is very dry, bleached, and coarse

If you don't have oily hair or use any kind of moisturizer/oil in your hair the bond will stay stronger longer, but when you add moisture/oil it helps to break down the bond causing slippage to the hair faster. That's why anyone that has oily hair or uses moisturizer/oil needs another bond reinforcement.

Also a lot of BHM members have said using Max Grafting Soultions is a very good bonding adhesive. I just recieved mine today but unfortunately I have no LF to wear with it because it hasn't come in yet

I've got very oily fine flyaway hair and I've been using the Protac with Liquid Gold glue or the Protac with the Vapon No tape. My hair grows very fast and when I've used the LG without the protac, it only stays in for two weeks tops. Now that I use the Protac with glue, I don't have to redo my hair for at least  one month (they would probably last longer but my hair grows super fast)

Sherrie, using the C-22 helps disolve the protac quickly for me.
