Great choice going to a salon is good. Word of advice though many colorist can't even get blonde right. Virgen hair yes it goes through it's stages like its suppose to.
Not virgen hair you may run into problems here are some mishaps I went through with so call professinals. This happen to me PERSONALY through the years in salons!!
colorist mishaps : These are from people who are suppose to be experts. Each problem these colorist did I only went to them once!! If they mess up on your hair, second time around they will probably mess it up again so don't go back!!
Had a haircolorist
lift to orange not yellow and no not even close to pale yellow than decide to throw a ash toner outcome it turns GREEN.
Or I had a colorist try to get pale yellow she left it on to long it was WHITE!! Outcome it broke!!! only half of inch of white hair and the rest of the hair broke!!
I also had colorist do a tone on tone dyed my hair (base) brown than lifted or try to lift the brown dyed hair to blonde. She bleached the brown hair Outcome it was a yellowy orange brassy mess. Oh it left my hair super super dry also.
all in all I had many problems with my hair trying to get it blonde. The thing I know is this. My hair is dark level 3 dark brown. To get it a level 10 virgen is the only way I can get it that light without it breaking off or looking like a dry straw.
I have colored my hair strip my hair by (using color remover) than try to get blonde. The only thing I end up with is fryed overprocess hair if I use bleach on my colored hair.It gets light but not the blonde I like so I gave up and realize virgen hair bleaches well for me..
Root touch ups I always always have to tell the colorist (besides) the one I'm using now been with her about 2 years now. Anyways always have to tell the colorist not to OVERLAP my pale blonde hair just put the bleach on my dark roots.Overlap for those of you who get highlights watch them they do the roots than lightly sweep across the whole strand!! Always why?! who knows!!
I also learned bleach it right or pretty damn close to the yellow you want and the toner will work to give you a beautiful shade of blonde. If you bleach to yellowy orange and or a very brassy yellow color and you are shooting for a (cool tone) blonde sorry toner won't help you.Depend more on the bleach rather than the toner to get the blonde shade you are shooting for.
Also if your hair is damaged time doesn't help.Hair doesn't heal. You can try lighting your hair in stages but really You can wait a week, month or even a year putting bleach on damaged hair may or may not break your hair. If it doesn't break your hair it will look overprocessed like a dry straw broom or worst cotton candy. YUCK!! That's why I say virgen hair is the best to lift light. The lighter your hair is naturaly the easier it will lift and less damage your hair has to go through. Us dark brunettes gets the worst because if has to lift in so many stages.
Use good hair products thick conditoners help the hair cuticle lye flat. Also your texture may change so think twice before making this decision. It's easy to go back dark if you don't want blonde hair but harder to go light if you decide to be blonde again. Hair can only take so much damage! good luck Vanessa
