I was just wondering if it would be ok to use a temporary (6-8 weeks) black dye and the freehand/tinfoil method to put some streaks in my hair. I would want the streaks to be varying from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch or so, however I don't know how thick I should make them. I have really thick hair, so should I just take the very top couple of rows of hair, or go all the way to my scalp? I know that sounds confusing but I don't know any other way to word it. Also, would it be alright to pin half of my hair up so I can do some streaks in the lower layers and then let the rest down and streak it too? By the way, I have thick, dark brown, straight, 24 inch hair if that matters at all. I'm also wondering if the black would completely wash out in the 6-8 weeks or will it be tinted forever? Right now my hair has not been processed at all except for the red Loreal Color Gems demi-permanent dye I put over it about 2-3 weeks ago. It just gave my hair a bit of a red tint in the sunlight, which is what I wanted. Any tips welcome... thanks!

Black semi doesn't wash out completly. Although it may fade faster than permanent hair color.

I would look into some extension streaks instead of coloring your hair.  Black dye is *really* hard to remove and with hair that is 24" long already, do you really want to wait for it to grow out if something doesn't turn out right?

There's a great extension forum on this site.  You could make your own clips ins or do a few fusion streaks yourself that you could change at will instead of committing to a possibly permanent change.

Just a thought!

Temporary black will, in my opinion, fade ok on dark brown hair - you probably won't see it after a while on such dark locks already.  I'd suggest things like extension streaks for somebody with lighter hair who wanted black streaks...but I've had them myself and they're just not the same - I'd go for the home streaks, it's cheaper also.
