Hi I have had pro-flex/pro-lac tape in and took it out yesterday for the first time. I took it out with acetone as i was told it would work well, trouble is it was so difficult to get out - it took ages and was so messy and made my hair a bit of a mess too. Does anyone know an easier or better way to take these out as i want to put more in but am a little bit weary as i will dread the taking out again? Thanks Kazzy xx |

thats very odd...usully pure acetone will pretty much instantly release the adhesive tape, without any mess whatsoever. You can also any oily type remover. | I know i couldnt understand why they just did not want to come out - i think i could have left them in for ages if i didnt need to do my roots. The tape was great though, there was no slippage, i could use any condidtioner and they would still stay put - just the top where the hair goes over came loose. |

Well, when i put the acetone on it didnt seem to shift the tape at all so i gently poured more on to soak in as i thought it would slip them out easy. It did move them slightly but i had to keep putting more and more on, the glue got so sticky and messy. |

did you use pure professional acetone? Could it have been old? Was it the pro-tac tape or a differnt brand of tape? Usually the acetone doesnt have that affect on the pro-tac. SO Im a little puzzled. I saturate the tapes with acetone and they slide right out and I can usually pull the entire strip of tape off of the weft. Now...I do know that if the acetone sits on the tapes for a period of time they will start to get gooey. If the acetone doesnt work for you, I would try one of the orange oil removers. Im not sure, Im just puzzled because usually the acetone works very quickly, very well and without any mess. But not everything works the same for everyone. If acetone doesnt work maybe one of the other removers will work better for you. I wouldnt give up on the pro-tac yet. Kazzy, I had the same problem as you. When I used Acetone, it just turned into a huge sticky mess. I use orange oil, I got mine from shrinkies.net, but any one of the above will work great. I am goin to re-stock up on my remover and tapes and will buy from Sherrie's store this time. I also has good luck with using Olive Oil, you have to put it into a squirt bottle, and it get the hair REALLY oily, but is releases the tape really well also. Don't give up, next time will be easier!! |

i used pure acetone nail polish remover on mine (i had accidently put a
strip in crooked) and if i just put it on the strip it dodn't come
out. this is what i did: starting on one end, i pour a lot of acetone on a rag and use the rag to pull the hair away. i just went a small area at a time and it went by really quickly once i got the hang of it. if i put any pressure on the hair and tape, it would stick the hair back down, so keep pulling/sliding the hair off of the tape, don't rub the acetone in. i hope this helps, the method was kinda hard to describe. ------------- what I'm wearing: 1 pkg 18" DLux SS #2 and protac |

| I had to take mine out the same day I put them in and I used conditioner and then I used a little vegetable oil in the shower and rubbed that in and they came right out. My hair was not greasy from the oil it washed right out also |

I saturate pro-flex in conditioner and they come straight out. I've never tried acetone. |

One of the things I've found with acetone and Protac is that the
acetone breaks down the tape into goo VERY quickly. With the conditioner/oil removal method you put the stuff all over all the tapes and wait awhile. With acetone you have to work on ONE TAPE AT A TIME! I use a squirt bottle with a very tiny hole in the tip. You start at one end of the tape and squirt and separate, working down the tape. As soon as I get one tape out I dunk the top of the weft in a small bowl of acetone and IMMEDIATELY pull off the Protac. If I wait, the tape has disintegrated into goo on the weft. Then I dump the weft into a sink full of soapy shampoo water to soak. A little good conditioner and a rinse and the wefts are ready to be combed through, dried, and reinstalled. As far as what is left on my hair, I agree, it is a sticky, goopy nasty mess. I squirt where the bonds were with citrus remover, rub in some conditioner, put a cap on it and wait awhile. I use this time to finish washing and conditioning the wefts I've removed. Then I wash my hair with clarifying shampoo, leave it in for a few minutes, rinse, then put in a deep conditioner. By this time the gunk is almost gone. I use a wide-toothed comb in the shower to gently comb through my hair while the conditioner is in, gently combing out any balls of gunk that are left. A good rinse and all the gunk is gone from my hair. If you do an experiment with a piece of Protac and a little bowl of pure acetone, you'll see how fast the acetone disintegrates the protac. What is left is a sticky, nasty, gross substance. It will come off your hair if you use more acetone, but, again, you have to work on one spot at a time. If you just wet all your hair with acetone, the tape will disintegrate further into an even messier mess. Using the method I've described above, about 95% of the stickiness stays with the tape and pulls off the weft in one gross, sticky piece. I keep a box of Kleenex handy because that tape blob sticks to anything it touches. Getting it into a Kleenex and into the trash keeps things much less messy. I've gotta say, though that the take-down process is the part I really really hate because of all the stickiness. Yuck! But conditioner was worse for me because it didn't release the tapes as easily and left a bunch more gunk all over the extension hair. I spend HOURS cleaning the stickiness off the length of the extension hair, and then had to use cornstarch after they had dried, and rewash, to get all the gross stickiness off the hair. ------------- Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE! |

i would say dont use the acetone anymore and use the orange or citrus oil. I used some of the oil from shrinkies site and my tapes were out within 2 minutes all of them. I just put alot of oil all over the tapes and they come right out. No mess whatsoever left in my hair

I have never tried acetone, but when I used Biolage Ultra-hydrating
balm I had every single newly installed well attached protac tape fall
out onto the shower floor and I didn't even put it directly on the
tapes. It came out so easy I never even touched the tapes lol. I used the orange oil for every intentional removal, it took a long time but worked well. I haven't reinstalled with protac (I have fallen in love with the liquid gold and acetone removal) since, but I would definitely give the Biolage Ultra-hydrating balm (not the regualr hydrating balm) a shotl ------------- Wearing 22" 8oz Tease I tips installed with silicone microrings. |

The citrus remover at walmart, de-solve-it (like $4 for 16 oz) works REALLY well, even with my proflex/LG combo the tracks practically fell out after putting this stuff on. Why dont you try the Proclaim shampoo remover it works on me when I am taking out my proflex, I have never used acetone at all. After using the Proclaim shampoo remover I use cheap Asda conditioner and the tapes just slide out and there is never any residue left in my hair. ------------- |
