I  have  dyed dark brown hair and I wanted to get caramel-blondish highlights instead of growing out my hair and bleaching all of it to get the color blond again. Does anyone know how I go about doing this and if I can without all of it breaking off?  Do I still have to let it grow out before I do this?  My prom is coming up and I want to dye it this week so I dont know wether to dye it brown again and wait to change it or if I should just go for it now, since I have some root growth right now.  Thanks anybody who can advise me!!

If you want highlights I will go to a salon. Unless of course you know how to do highlights yourself you can save a lot more money for fraction of the cost.

I go to the salon and get foils. the right way to do it is use color remover take out the artifical hair dye than use bleach. Depending how damage your hair is now will determine if it can take it without breaking.

Some salons although not all simply put bleach over the hairdye parts and lifts it out that way. That is damaging too but if you do decide to go to the salon ask questions. ask about hairbreakage, how she will make your hair lighter, what she is using a high lift tint or bleach. If you feel comfortable with him or her go for it.
