Okay...I need some help...and I know I can find the answer here.... Just when I thought I had it figured out...I get confused again.
What is the difference between Hairlocs, short2long, Micro-linking, and micro-rings?
I currently have Hairlocs installed and was just recently found out about short2long extensions (which looks similar to Hairlocs extensions)..but now the microlinks and micro-rings are confusing the equation.
From my understanding, Hairlocs and short2long extensions are similiar extension methods...but what exactly is micro-ring and micro-linking extension methods?.....
Are these similar methods...just with different names? Any assistance in understanding these different methods would be greatly appreciated.  ------------- Htowngirl |

similar methods. The hairlocs are a copper tube a little longer I think than the micro-rings or links. And also shaped a little different on one end. (Its been a long time since Ive heard much discussion on hairlocs so I hope my memory serves me correct) Anyone feel free to correct me if Im wrong.
The micro-rings or micro-links are basically the same, just different sellers call them by different names. Links or rings are usually nickle, Ive seen some aluminum too.
Short2long Im not sure about.

The Hairlocs and short2long extensions are the same technique, accept with different names. The two tubes are the same, but different patent on each one. The microrings are shorter in length, like the silicone lined ring has silicone on the inside to cushion the hair, and prevent slippage on slippery, fine hair. Sherrie explained it well also.

Thanks for the explanation. I was pretty sure that short2long was just like Hairlocs. Shiry had shared the information about short2long not too long ago. I just started getting confused because most stylists in Houston advertise micro-rings or microlinks...and I was not sure if this was a similar technique to the Hairloc methods.
Will the silicone lined rings hold up in relaxed hair or are they prone to slipping? ------------- Htowngirl |

My experience with the silicone rings was amazing, in 3 months I lost
only one bond and I was even able to get conditioner on my roots. I did
hear the downside is that they are bigger and harder to cover up, but
my hair is naturally wavy so I didnt have any issues with that.
It is also super fine and slippery so I imagine they work great on any
hair.. I used the extentubes on my first strand by strand install. I usually lost about 5 everytime I washed my hair and I left strands of hair everywhere lol (including some places I REALLY never wanted to leave it). short to long used to be called Eurlocs which is where hairlocs was established. same product, different name. micro cylinders are shorter and wider and are usually aluminum as hairlocs and s2l is copper. ------------- Bringing beauty, one head at a time... |

I never thought about airport security. I currently have Hairlocs and I have seemed to make it thru airport security without any trouble...lol..Now when I go to the airport..that is going to be on my mind.
TanglesRC..do you install the Eurolocs and Hairlocs? Since the methods are the same,do both methods hold equally as well? Sorry for the questions..just trying to figure this all out...
What about the hair quality...is it the same with Hairlocs and S2L?

| eurolocs short2long hairlocs,,,they are ok,,but i had two girlfriends who couldn't wash their hair or wake up without finding strands haven fallen out,, and they paid top dollar in houston,, i had a test of 6 silicone lined links put in with hair,and not one fell off over 4 months!..i had to go find them in my head and ask my hairstylist to take them out,,silicone is also much gentler on your hair,, if they crimp the copper tubes as hard as it would take to really hold tight,,it would damage your hair.. |

They are removed with a special plyers. I used them to do the maylasian method, which makes my sew-in's really flat. I have two installs on June 10th, so we'll see. I 'll keep ya posted. Oh yeah, I will only use the silicone lined rings for wavy textures and mini shr*** for the sides.

I had to fly to Huntsville round trip in one day - No problems, not even a strange look... they must have seen a few ladys w/ them ??? Don't know ? Funny thing is on the B. trip before my underwire set-off the metal detector, I got the wand treatment & then the Lady asked me underwire - I said yep & I passed... but hair links no prob ?
But I will tell you a funny one - on the same trip to as the underwire issue - where was it TN darn can't remember which city, the on the return ( small airport ), Oh Yeah -Knoxville they pulled me & asked what was in my bag. I was alarmed, my reponse was ummm, ummm a laptop, paper files, make-up bag - oh yeah are you thinking of my eye-lash curler (ya know I am thinking this could probly look danerous on an x-ray machine) ?
They were very, very serious w/ me.... I tried to open my bag to show them & they told me " STOP DON'T TOUCH IT " - I got really nervous & said would you like to look - I swear it is just me, my work stuff, and make-up bag.
I am very compalsive about my hair so I had numerous of hair ties, come to find out they were looking at a hair stick - it looks like a metal pointy object. They released me when the found the metal loop it goes thru to tie the hair up - man they were serious !!! LOL LOL - and what is the deal w/ lighters ( had to buy one then toss it - get matches - lost them - buy another lighter - then toss it )... Maybe it is just me, but I would think they could do some improvements to the whole security thing ?

Depending on how thick the person's hair is the silicone lined rings are kinda noticable when they are closed shut. If you have length to your hair and your wanting to add fullness in the back , I can see it, bu the lady that I am doing the install on, I am going to use shrinkies around the back sides and some at the top. Then, I'm going to use the silicone line rings in the middle. Only because her hair is color treated. Color treated hair needs more TLC. Her hair is about an inch long in the back so, I need the shrinkies for the extra support, she is going to pulling her hair up all the time.

haha i have nothng helpful to add here except lynnie i live in knoxville and yes, airport security here is serious.
i'm with kalika i would've thought the microrings would set off the metal detector as you walk through......

i just flew to nyc and back and my locs didnt even show or alarm anything- now my piercings were another story!!!
ok hairloc and eurlocs -the method is similar the eurlocs teaches to fold over the loc which can cause some serious damage if squeezed to tight, hairlocs teaches to crimp the middle, i dont do either, i close the top and bottom and they stay in great. i also do not use their openeer with the pronges which can cause damage to hair, i use a round to re round the loc.
hair quality- well honestlyh hairlocs used to have the best quality hair on the market, but the past year the quality and service has gone down. i have a couple of suppliers who make hair for me to my specs. i have to hair hair on hand at all times so when i do purchase from suppliers, its at least 3-4 thousand strands at a time. so when i find a great supplier, i stick with them. Currently i have two i work with. I also have my locs custom made to my specs. i like to use very very almost invisible locs and i also use the regular sizes as well, just depend son my install.

You have to leave hair out around the edges along the sides and back. Apply a ring and then pull your hair (at bottom of nape) up to see if it covers the ring. Understand? Leave enough hair down so you'll have room for an upsweep and ponytail.
