Hi, try Redken smooth down heat glide. It is great. I used to use biosilk but it has way too much alcohol and eventually starts to dry out your hair. And contrary to what people believe biosilk is not a heat protectant. Is more like a lusterizer. It "conditions" and adds shine. The heat glide is specifically designed to use with heat appliances, and protect hair. It works great, it is super concentrated so it lasts forever (I've had the same bottle for almost two years), and it is cheaper than biosilk.

In reference to split ends, sorry, no serum prevents split ends. The only thing that prevents split ends is regular trims (at least every 8 weeks). Good products can help you go longer without split ends, but eventually you will get them if you heat style.

God bless, and great hair

I like Citre shine. It's cheap, smells nice, and doens't have alcohol in it... it comesin a spray form, and a serum form, and neither of them are too greasy (especially not the spray)... I've been using them for years! Plus you can buy it ANYWHERE>>>

Some heat protectors can be too heavy for the ends of peoples hair. I do love Redken , but it is one of the heavier ones. If your hair is fine, try Beyond Shine by Aquage, it is quite light, and you can layer it on the hair.

Regular trims are a must, for everyone. Do not go longer than 6 to 8 weeks. If you want  to grow your hair longer, make sure to find someone who can be trusted to trim off only what is necessary.

Not unless the product specifically states is a heat protectant

Oil can be used as a heat protectant, but it does not have a thermodynamic property as great as a silicone based product. Therefore, a product containing silicone in some form, is a better choice.
Using oil in addition, is still good for the hairs luster. Anything is better than nothing.
I suggest my clients use,
Sebastian Laminates
Chi Iron Guard
Aquage Beyond Shine
BioSilk silk therapy
Redken Heat Glide.
Remember to dry the hair thoroughly before ironing.
Heat protection should be used before blowdrying also, not just ironing.
