well i was planning on growing some dreads. at tha moment im growing my hair and tha only things i do to keep it up is shampoo it with suave shampoo, put some carrot oil conditioner on it, put some super gro conditioner on it, and then comb it. right now my hair is about 1 inch long. is there something that im doing wrong or is there any advice that u all can give me so that i'll grow some healthy hair for dreads?

You may wanna try washing with conditioner when you are in the shower and limit using shampoo/conditioner to once a week. I would suggest using Aussie 3 min miracle or Tresseme Conditioners ( i was trying to think of some unscented ones), another option is SalonCare All purpose moisturizer (Sally's)- this one is large in quantity but cheap on price and a good product.

Also before shampooing- do a pre-poo treatment on your hair with castor oil(this will thicken it up over time). I put it on dry hair/scalp (it is ok to saturate it) for about 20 mins prior to shampooing- put on a thin plastic cap and i usually sit under the dryer with this but it is not required or i leave it on overnite prior to shampooing and shampoo in the a.m.

Don't use petroleum or mineral oil on your hair. Try natural oils like safflower oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, grapseed oil or palm oil.

Also Cream of Nature is a great shampoo that may be better for you than the suave.

hope this helps a little.
