Last summer, I decided I wanted to lighten my dark brown hair somehow. So I went to the drugstore and bought Sun In. I used the entire bottle. That was my worst mistake. Now, A year later, 6 inches of my hair is my normal dark brown color(roots) and about 8 inches is a fugly blondish-brown color. I am afraid to try dyeing the blonde without it turn scary. Any advice. Anyone else ever use Sun In?

I advice you to never use it!

Sorry to hear about the effects of Sun-In.  I agree with you about the product - it's pure evil.  My only suggestion is to seek professional advice.  Find the best hair color specialist you can to see if the color can be corrected to match your natural color.  Worst case, you'll want/need to trim off the damage.  You may be able to do it in stages to lessen the impact of having hair shorter than you want.

Good luck!

If you want to go lighter Sun-In can be bleached out. If you want to go darker well you can do that too with a Tint-back to your natural haircolor. Consult a professional don't attempt it yourself.

Sun-In is very damaging to a person's hair....my advice is to never use it.

I honestly think that sun in should be ripped off of the market. I have never heard a single success story from this hideous stuff. When I was in middle school (just before moms would let girls use real hair color) this was the stuff to use... and most of the girls looked pretty silly when school would get back into session in the fall!

I haven't used it, but my sister used it when we were teens and it always turned out very pretty. She never had a problem with it.

I used it as a kid and it looked fine. But once on color treated hair (WHAT WAS I THINKING!!) It turned my hair an apricot color.
Whatever you do,dont make the same mistake i just made. If you just try to dye it brown, the blond might turn green. You will need to put red back in it and then brown if you want it all the same color again...or going ALL blonde is an option, but people dont realize how much of a pain it is to be blond either!
Either go to a pro,or you could try doing it yourself. If you do it yourself I'd call a hair dye company first though. http://www.clairol.com - www.clairol.com   is helpful. I'd give you more places, but after searching the web despretely when I needed help they were the only ones I could get a hold of.
