I have been clarifying almost 1-2x a week while in braids with Nutrine Garlic poo and Bath & Body Works Rosemary mint poo (both have that Ammonia cleanser) and so far the hair looks good but I just read that its not good to clarify too much while in braids because its too drying. I am wary of using a moisturizing shampoo because of buildup concerns..what do you guys think? TIA

honey child, you are right tooo much clarifying strips the hair of moisture and the nutrients that you put into your hair via products. my advice to shampooing while in braids is to use the crown/glory sponge technique . wet the sponge and clean scalp with a moisturizing shampoo, because when youre in braids you want ro retain moisture right? check out http://www.growafrohaairlong.com - www.growafrohaairlong.com if you havent already

tell me how the sponging goes, i will braid my hair in june.

I agree with Luvlybelizean. Even though it may not seem to be harming your hair..you really can not tell because your hair is braided up. IMO I dont even clarify while in braids. I just use a herbal shampoo, dry shampoo made for braids, the crown and glory method mentioned, or even good old sea breeze/witch hazel/alcohol with a cloth on the scalp. To bring back moisture to your hair is use a good moisturizer or natural oils (but of course dont over do it with the oils or any products for that matter in fear or buildup LOL) The reason why is because with braids and dryness it can cause your hair to become brittle therefore promoting damage and breakage. Moisturizing shampoo can cause buildup but it depends on how much you use it and how often. HTH

please do not clarify your hair while its in braids. what i can advise you to do is do ACV rinses. if you clarify, there's a good chance that when you moisturise, the moisture wont get into your hair

Thanks for all the reponses I also read elsewhere that it is not a good idea, that its better to use a clear moisturizing shampoo that will clean but not leave buildup, so I am going to use Kiehls Amino Acid poo from now on

I am currently doing the crown and glory method and when I redid the first two rows of braids my hair was strong, shiny, and soft
