A friend of mine recently suggested that I go to a salon and get a deep conditioning treatment, since I'm swimming in the pool so often and the chlorine is starting to take a toll on my hair. I want to at least make an effort to keep my hair in good shape, but before I agree, I just had a few questions about it and I figured I'd ask the experts. 
For reference, I'm a male with hair that usually ranges between 2 and 4 inches long.
So, Deep Conditioning Treatments:
1. What exactly do they do for your hair?
2. What does the actual process entail?
3. Does it make a difference that my hair is so short?
4. Is it something that guys actually do? I'd feel wierd if I was the only guy doing it.
Thanks for all the help in advance! I just wanted to get some information before agreeing to go through with what could be a perm for all I know.

Whoops, forgot one!
5. How much of a noticable difference will it visibly make on my hair? Like will my coworkers be able to tell that I got my hair deep conditioned, or is the difference more in the feel of the hair and less in the look?

Hi,
I would,nt say you need to go to a salon for a deep conditioning treatment. There are so many different conditioning treatments you can buy in your local superstore/chemist. L Oreal, VO5,Panten, loads of good brands available. All you have to do is apply the conditioning treatment on to mostly towel dried hair , leave on the hair from anything up to 15 Min's , follow manufacturer's instructions. Best conditioning treatments will contain keratin strengthens which re-build the structure of the hair, give good condition and shine to you hair. It doesn't matter what length your hair is. Yes it is what guy actually do. More men today are looking after their hair and skin as much as woman do, and thats no shame. As for your fellow work co-worker's , they will not notice, and if they did know is it such a terrible thing, in making your self look good, probably jealous. lol.

Thnks for the advice! I think I'll probably end up just going to a salon to get it taken care of professionally, though, since I don't really trust myself not to screw it up on my own. 
I called my friend and told her I'd be willing to go in and make an appointment for the deep conditioning, so she gave me the number of the salon she goes to, and told me, "Wow, if I knew you'd agree this easily, I would have suggested that you get a shampoo and set instead!" I'm not exactly sure what that is, but knowing her, it can't be good. (Though all she'd have to do is give me the doe-eyed look, and I would probably agree to that, too.)
