Hello there. New to the forum and I have a question.
If this issue has been addressed before, I am terribly sorry for posting it again.
My hair is currently dyed dark brown, but naturally a dishwater blonde/medium brown. It was originally dyed black and I used color fix (as suggested by my aunt, who was a hair stylist). She said if I wanted it lighter then to use this dark blonde demi-permanent hair dye (it was called color charm). My hair seemed to be back to it's natural color, but after I put in the dark blonde hair dye it turned dark brown. I think the chemicals may have redarkened (as it said may happen on the instructions), or maybe it was the dark blonde hair dye.
It's been about three weeks, and I am still waiting for my hair to gradually (hopefully) turn back the natural hair color it was when I put in the color fix. I am just getting worried it won't lighten up. If that's the case, what are my options? Should I opt for buying hair dye, or trying the color fix again? (Eh, I imagine that'd be terribly damaging.) What kind of hair dye would I buy to get it back to the natural medium brown?
Right now, my hair's condition seems okay. I suppose maybe I should be more paitent and wait three more weeks and see from there?

Hi Tiger,
When you say your hair was back to the natural color, was that right after you used the colorfix? (If so, you should not have added the color!)
Demi permanent color will not make your hair any lighter. It will only add color, not lift any.
So now that you have dyed your hair again... if you want to go lighter, you have to remove this dye with colorfix (yes, again). Do NOT try to use another dye to try to go lighter once there is already dye in your hair. It won't work. You hair will keep getting darker.
So once you colorfix all the dye out, if you like the color you end up with, stop there! Most people who have used permanent color don't end up with a color they like after using colorfix, so they need to dye afterwards. If you have been using a demi permanent all along, colorfix may get your hair very close to your natural color.
After you use colorfix, if you don't like the color you end up with... and want to go even lighter, you will need to use a permanent color (with the appropriate vol developer, depending on how many levels lighter).

Yeah, I did use the demi-permenant color after I used the color fix. Ahh, I should have just stuck with my gut on that one.
Oh well, I am going to wait a few more weeks and try again with the colorfix I suppose.

P.S. Use a deep conditioner with lots of protein a couple of times per week. I don't think you've done too much damage, but a good conditioner will help keep your hair as healthy as possible.

Don't worry too much about usuing Colorfix twice. I've used it twice in one day to get better results, and as long as I keep looking after my hair and using intensive conditioners/protein treatments, my hair is absolutely fine (I recommend Joico K-Pak Protein Reconstructor).
Just make sure you test strand before doing it so that you know it's worth putting your hair through the chemicals....there's nothing worse than things turning out wrong on the whole of your head, rather than a little test strand!
