Hi, I have been on here before to ask for advice but I have yet another question. I am going to give up going to the salon as they keep making it a mess and I have to come home and attempt to fix it myself.
I asked for blonde hightlights on Saturday and the result was big thick clumps of bleached blonde hair in amongths my dark/dirty blonde. Disgusting.
I put a light ash brown over it to try and tone it down and my hair is now dark blonde all over with some little highlights through it. Fine, except for the ROOTS.
In a normal mirror they look fine, but in my mirror beside the window, the natural light hits it and there is a definite orangey tone to it. It is dark, but instead of the usual fine blond hairs shining through the roots are orange toned.
I want to go to Sally and get the stuff to fix it. I dont want it lighter, just the same all over colour but without these awful tones.
Im thinking.....I should ask for a 7N with vol 10. And I should use 3 parts colour to one part blue to counteract the orange?
If that is correct, can you tell me exactly how much (ml for ml) I should buy? or, if they will only come in 'bigger' sizes cos it is supposed to be for salons... how much of the colour/developer/controller I should use for one coloruing sesison?
Sorry if it sounds like I dont know what Im talking about- I dont!!!....I sort of understand the sticky at the top, but actually doing it for real is quite a sifferent story.

Hi Alison, I think you've managed to "scare" most of us. ;) First, when you say you applied light ash brown, I have to assume that's darker than the level 7 natural medium blonde you're considering. You cannot simply apply a level 7N over darker dye. To apply a lighter dye, you'd need to first use a color remover to lift the previous dye. I think for you to try to correct your color on your own at this point would be getting in over your head. You might try a shampoo like Aveda Blue Malva (I believe Sally's has it) or something similar. That may counteract the orange tones enough for you. Otherwise, you really do need to find an experienced, professional colorist who you can trust. Good luck! |

Thanks for the reply! I have tried several hair stylists and each time I go, it is a mess and I have to come home and atempt to fix it myself. I always leave it a couple of months in between, to get it into condition and so that I have at least an inch of root to show my true colour. And I always go with recommendations but they never get it right. I will try the toning shampoo and will see what happens, thanks  .------------- alison |

I completely understand your frustration! Someone really needs to see your hair in person. Corrective color for your situation sounds like it could get fairly complicated. I'm afraid that internet guesses as to what to try would end up making your hair even worse.  Let's hope the shampoo works! <<crossing fingers>> |
