If your hair is very fine to begin with and you get extensions, after having them in for a period of time and having them removed..............can your hair become even finer?  I have very fine hair to begin with............i have had extensions for awhile now is this because i am used to the extensions that have made my hair really full?  Or have i lost alot of hair?  It doesnt seem like much hair comes out when she removes them! I see a little bit of hair, nothing concerning.  I am FREAKING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I feel like i will have to have these in forever!!!!  Im trying to grow my hair out, and it is taking forever................she has to keep trimming my natural hair so the extensions will blend!  Do you think i have lost a ton of hair?  Or do i just feel like that from having a thick head of hair for so long?

Hey!

Don't panic!  You are not alone, lol!  I go through the exact same thing!

You are going to lose some hair through extensions, as that is natural.  I am not sure what kind of extensions you have in now, but I have tried almost all methods.

Remember, your natural hair sheds daily.  When you have extensions in, your natural shedded hair can't really escape and shed out.  It often remains in the extension bond until you have them removed.  When I did installs using shrinkies, I had a lot of my natural hair come out with them, but it was shedding.  I know have wefts installed with LG and now I don't notice as much, but you will always have some.

Your hair should be fine if you are properly maintaining your extensions. Sometimes people have horror stories about hair extensions damaging their hair and it is usually due to their poor maintance routine or someone that doesn't know what they are doing when they install.

I have SUPER fine hair as well and cannot live without extensions b.c I think my hair looks gross without them!  Whenever I do a complete takedown I feel like I have next to no hair!  Just think though, you have at least 4 ounces of extensions in and you will notice a HUGE difference when they come out.

I often think this:  when I have my extensions installed and I pull it into a ponytail it feels as thick as a corncob, and without extensions, the thickness of a pencil!

Don't panic! :)

Yes I have to agree with pinkparadise....Dont Panic...my hair too is very fine and without the extensions I feel bald, the first time I took mine out I freaked and how little hair I really have, I keept thinking how did I ever get my hair to do anything before extensions...
That is why I will always have extensions at the very least just for thicker hair!

Kathyann, that is exactly how I am, lol! I will never stop using extensions unless by some miracle my natural hair does a complete turn around!!

After having extensions I was thinking that same thing as you.....how did I ever even survive with just my natural hair!  lol!

I think everyone goes though a 'freak out' when their extensions are removed.  I have been wearing them for 15 years and I still feel that way, and many of my clients do as well.

But the answer to your question is that yes, extensions can (but not necessarily for everyone)  make thin hair even more thin over time.  Anyone who tells you differently is not experienced enough in doing extensions.  My hair has thinned out from it over the years, but my hair was never good to begin with, so to me it's not a big deal.

Some people's hair is just not strong enough for extensions, sad but true.  I do turn away some potential clients who come in for a consultation because I don't think their hair can take it.

So you have to ask yourself if extensions are worth it to you, that they may potentially thin out your hair.  For   some it's worth the risk, for others it's not.

And by the way, extensions can causing thinning of hair, they will not make it more fine.  The word 'fine' refers to texture- the diameter of the individual hair shaft, not the amount of hair that you have on your head.

My hair is thin/fine. I have had my GL extensions since Jan. (I know way too long) they are coming out Tuesday.  I am going to miss them sooo much. I do not want my thin crap hair back...

It does make it a bit thinner...a few tips is DON'T PICK AT YOUR HAIR!!
The first time I did extensions, I picked at every single hair that wasn't attached perfectly...and paid for it when I took them out...
My personal opinion is that wefts are the gentlest...much better then any single strand method, and even better than clip ins (clipins killed my head, ouch)...
Though, if you just want fullness, the best (and absolute least harmful for your hair is the halo (that goes onto your hea  as a halo of fishing wire)...I used that for two months, and didn't have one hair hurt...but I like protac better:)

tbctbc - why do you think wefts are gentler than strand by strand?  I am currently wearing pinchbraids and thinking of going back to wefts.   Also, how do you attach a halo?  With clips?

I have fine hair texture and had thinning from hair exensions.  I don't feel that is was either of the ext stylists fault that I saw--I just think my hair couldn't handle it.
I have been wearing clip on wefts for 7 months and my hair is thickening up a lot.  Actually, it has all grown back at the scalp.  For a couple of months I had a lot of short little hairs sprouting out of my head.  My hair had been pulled out.  I started taking biotin, B-50, Folic acid...

I actually like the clip ons better--I can change my look every day if I want to, I get to work out w/ out them on (yay!), washing my hair is now easy, sleepng is so much better w/ out extensions on.  I take them out when I am at home and no ext on my days off to let my follicles rest...

edit--typos again!

I did my own take downs (all day process b/c I was so careful) but my  hair was actually pulled out while wearing them, before the take down.  I could tell it was happening and I actually took some of the heat seals out early b/c I could see the little bald spots appearing. I was reaaalllllly careful while wearing  them, too.  I followed all the rules.

My hair  doesn't like hot tools or professional hair color either.
