and how it is bad for your hair. First I want to know how it's harmful and if this is bad, what other "non-salon" shampoos are good to use. (for normal or permed hair).
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks!

couldn't tell ya on the first. On the second - had perms alot in my lifetime. Used all kinds of products. Rusk Wired is the absolute bomb for curls. It costs $10 for a creme tube (one tube lasted me about 9 months). It's like after-shower setting creme. Defines and holds curls. Smells good. Shampoo? I liked Aussie's lines (3 minute miracle IS a miracle!). Don't do the Aussie hairspray for curls - I had actually broken off a small strand at the end because this stuff is soooo stiff. Hate Herbal Essences other than hairspray. Hate Finesse LOADS. Hate VO5 - its crap. Salon Selectives is o.k. Suave is not really that bad, if you're in a $ bind. The Paul Mitchell line is excellent - of course. Don't do two-in-one. Weighs down curls. Pantene I'm out to lunch on since I haven't used it in a coon's age. The new smell almost killed me. The Frizz Ease and Infusium line both rock. I hated Studio line.

Is it like a home perm? Where do you get it? I'm trying to talk my mom into a perm and I've been telling her we could do it if we could find a good brand.
