Subject: How often to co-wash?

I am currently transitioning 5 months post chemicals.  I am a 4a/4b.....more 4b....real nappy!  I have heard a lot of good things about co-washing, but I am concerned about how often I should do it.  I have started to do it twice a week (Mon and Wed) along with a regular shampoo wash (Fri).  I was wondering is that too much.....I have read on some threads that a lot of ladies do co-washes everyday, but does the number of co-washes you do depend on hair type or condition of the hair?  If it will help my hair grow faster, I would do it everyday.

I'd like to know the answer to this question too.  I am 4a/b hair as well and natural.  I've been doing them daily since I took my twist out, since my hair has been sooo dry. It makes it softer, but I don't know is this is too much.

Well the best I can tell you is "listen" to your hair it seems to me that BrownDiva's hair is thriving with daily co-washes so why worry if you see a good change, some people do them once a week, every other day, everyday and so on, if your hair likes or doesn't like  it, you will know it, you will notice a change good or bad. Everyone's hair is different, someone's hair might hate daily co-washes and go all limp on them and then another's hair will be soft and shiny fom it. There's no definite answer as to how much is too much or how much is too little all I can advise is that you keep watching your hair ladies but it seems to me that both your hair are thriving and Southernfried I don't know if it grows it faster but it does keep your hair moisturized and prevent breakage so you can retain what you already have, breakage is one of the main reasons we think our hair is not growing, when it is. I do my co-washes every other day by the way and my shampooing is now down to twice a month, my hair is loving it.

Thanks Angel28.  I have to admit the co-washes do leave my hair softer and more manageable.  I think I'll start out with twice a week for now, and maybe increase it to every other day.  BTW what conditioners do you use for your co-washes?  I am a major PJ, so I have a lot to choose from.  So far I have used Nexxus Humectress...that was okay.  My next co-wash I used Africa's Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise....I liked that a whole lot better.  It really left my hair softer and it felt thicker.  I just bought some VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner and Suave Naturals conditioner.  A lot of the ladies seem to like these two especially.

I use "white rain" mostly but I bought myself a Vo5 tangerine tickle last week and I cant wait to try itI haven't tried Suave yet though, it sounds like you're trying quite a few products and discovering what you like best good for you Southernfried.

How often is up to you.  Preference/time schedule.  Tongue Try it to see how your hair likes it and go from there.
