Hey, I'm in the transitioning process but my last relaxer was April 24th pretty recent. Right now, I'm dealing with new growth but I doubt its even an inch, still its driving me crazy. I have severe puffy edges, my roots are thick but my ends are so thin. So if I do the whole flat iron thing it won't even look good. So, will it look right if I tried out braid outs? I have some S curl and Sta Sof Fro which I think would come in handy. My last day of school was today (junior in high school), so I can let the braids stay in for days to have them come out well. But, please any tips on how I can have them sucessful let me know!Embarrassed

Braid/Twist your hair when its damp, and allow it to completely dry for best results.

As for products, any gel that doesnt contain any alcohol would work fine (just use it in moderation), water alone would work also.

I use water, coconut oil and a bit of gel for my braid outs and twist outs.

You also may want to curl the ends once you finish braiding or twisting.

You may also want to try wearing braidouts on dry hair  rather than wet.  This allows you to have that wavy look with less shrinkage.  I've been wearing braidouts off and on for the last three years on my relaxed hair - after it was dry (I airdry first in a rollerset to smooth out my hair).

When I do mines I always braid my hair while it is dry then wet it. I use to do it while it was wet but I got to much breakage. I make about 6 to 8 braids depending on if I want bigger/looser crimps or smaller more together crimps. Then I take 3-4 braids on one side and put those in a bun and I do the same with the other side. That way when I take them done my hair has some curl under at the end.

Here's a braidout/twistout I did while I was transitioning:

After airdrying my hair in a bun, I twisted and cornrowed my hair, sprayed w. SCurl, rolled the ends and tied up w. a satin scarf.  I loved it.  With a little patience, you can do a lot w. transitioning hair.  Good luck to you!
