Last nite,, i realized that it wasnt too much oil that was causing my hair to be so limp,, it was how thinned out my front side ends had become so i trimmed about a half an inch to an inch and what an immediate thickening and improvement,, I am currently approx 9 mths transitioning and so my hair is at the top all curly and the bottom all straight but frizzy and i straighten it weekly,, and i seem to be trimming half and inch to an inch every couple of months which means i wont getting anywhere as far as growing,, ill be stuck at armpit till these skinny relaxed ands come off gradually,, the thing is i dont think the ends are soo thin just becuz of the relaxer,, i think its bad breakage down there causing a great unevenness and that really upsets me,, i think i havent been as kind to my ends as i should be,, or maybe theyre so disentegrated from the perm that ill just have to allow them to break and keep trimming till all the perm is gone , anyone deal with this issue b4? also,, whats really good at strengthening and moisturzing the ends( something applied to dry hair)??

I think once you get those relaxed ends off you will really start to see more length.  Castor oil has really helped my ends not to split.  I use it to seal in my moisturizer and make sure the ends are coated really well with it.  Really baby those ends and you will see a big improvement.

OT...have you been able to keep your hair straight as the weather gets more humid?  I went out one night a few weeks ago and my hair was all straight and silky but after about 20 minutes of being outside it started to frizz something terrible.  I was so mad.  That really ruined my night.  I wish I had stayed home.  I had to come home and re-flat iron my hair which is something I  hate to do because it never comes out as straight and I hate to use that much heat.  I just decided not to flat iron anymore this summer because it would be a waste of timeUnhappy.  The funny thing about it is that I had the same problem when I was relaxed so I know I wouldn't ever benefit from having a relaxer again.

actually last nite i used jojoba oil after washing and then air dried in big braids and my hair actually came out soft! thats a first for me,, now i know to air dry in braids with oil on the ends,, the braids also add great curl definition,,   about the straightening,, i know how u feel,, this happens to me all the time the moment humidity strikes i step out and in just a few minutes my hair is all swelled and weird looking and wavy,, and i also dealt with the same thing when i had a perm,, I have actually been having these creeping evil ideas of relaxing again LOL but then i realize that a relaxer doesnt save me from humidity misery and i have major breakage when i relax so id have to be irrational to touch a perm now and Dont you even think about it LOL,, it might be slighly easier at first then youd regret it becuz the hair is drastically weakened,, ,, not flat ironing in the summer is a good idea, you can give ur hair a big break and just moisturize the ends while wearing it in a cute curly or wavy style,, i dreammm of doing this but my hair just looks too sloppy at this length when it isnt ironed so i just iron and pull it back into a half bun or something

Oh don't worry, I will never relax my hair again.  I love my hair too much natural.  I never even consider relaxing.  You're right, the relaxer won't help w/ humidity so there's really no point.......so don't do it, lol.

I air dry in two braids or two banded ponytails and it comes out much easier to flat iron but it's really bushy when I comb it out.  I've been wanting to try jojoba oil and coconut oil too.

Yeah I plan on giving my hair a rest this summer by wearing it curly.  It usually grows sooo much when I do this.  It is so curly though and it sometimes gets on my nerves but through a lot of research lol, I've finally been able to tame the curls and now I have perfect almost frizz free ringlets.  People are always asking me if I who did my hair and if I curled it or set it on rods.

I haven't flat ironed my hair yet and it's been over 2 years since I big chopped.  But I have a few natural associates that had the same problem with flat ironing in the summer. Now both of them only flat iron in the winter when the style can stay straight. So you guys are not alone!

Me neither! im never touching relaxer again, its evil for my hair,, i actually braided my hair to air dry b4 ironing and wow what a difference,, and the jojoba oil is really good,, its light but it def keeps the moisture in,, i sweated today and i hate not washing after i sweat,, i get a dry scalp,, i think im gonna do a light wash and then do the braids and leave em in all day tomorrow and just wear my hair in a half pony and if ppl are not running screaming in the other direction LOL i may do that all summer esp since im wearing 2 extensions in the back that really give my hair more weight

I probably won't straighten it anytime soon.  I work out alot and trying to keep the hair straight would be too much of a hassle.

so is there any other way 2 give up relaxing without doing a chop?? i really dont wanna cut my hair, i just wanna refrain from relaxing cuz i know it is damaging. i would say i relax about ever 3-4 months becuz i wear weaves and braids. my hair has grown a lot since i gave it a relaxing break. so....any advice for wanting to stop relaxing without cutting??

You could do what I did and gradually trim off the relaxed ends.  It's a slow process but it keep you from having to bc.

Although I'm just a newbie and I just joined the site this advice may help. If you want to give up relaxing as Pokahantas said you could cut it gradually or you can just allow the relaxer to grow out. Yes the rule is that if you go too long without a relaxer the natural hair will eat up the relaxed ends but to every rule there is an exception. If you keep your hair straightened or keep wearing your hair braided or flexy rods this can prevent that from happening until your hair grows to a comfortable length where you are okay with cutting it. Hope this helped.

welcome kinyhairchik and good advice,, im in the process of transitioning now,, im at 9 months so i still do have a great deal of relaxer left , i prolly have4 inches of new growth and a ton of underprocessing from self relaxer,, so some of it is like a texturizer,, anyhoo i am trying to keep textures similar ,, i keep it flat ironed :-)
