I have hair that is about 2inches long and want long hair without having to go thru all the ackward stages of growing it out. I've seen alot of the celebrities that have gotten extentions and it looks really natural. How do the extentions work and how can I find a salon that really knows what there doing?

Hi Dustin,
Are you male? I'm female and am currently growing my hair, and it can be frustrating, but if you are male, I wonder how on earth long do you want it? Also, if you get extensions, be prepared for a lot of comments on how you "instantly" got long hair. I'll be perfectly blunt -- I think it's a little silly for a man to get extensions in his hair.
I've researched extensions myself, and the only thing I can suggest is to call salons and ask if they offer the service of adding extensions. If they do, I'd ask to go in and see it done it person. There are an awfully lot of opinions out there on extensions. Some claim they do absolutely no harm to the hair. And other claim that it's very hard on the hair and can hinder the growing process. You'll have to decide whose opinion to believe! And I honestly don't even know myself. However, I'd strongly advise you to really investigate several methods and talk to several stylists before making a decision to get them. Also, you should know that they aren't cheap. About $500. is the very cheapest you'll find, but more likely than not, they'll run you closer to $1,000. for a quality job.
In other words, extensions are controversial as to what method is the best and if they're even good for your hair or not.
Take care,
Jennifer

Dear Dustin:
Hair extentions are really fun! There are several ways to get them in your hair. I probably would recomment the glue in method with the length hair you have on your head. It is simple and will last about a week to two weeks. You can buy artificial or real hair depending on how much money you want to spend. A salon that works with hair extensions would be the best place to go. Another alternative would be to sew in the hair extensions, or braid in the extensions, the salon you choose will be able to look at your hair and give you the best advice on which method to choose.
Have fun and enjoy the new look. I've tried the glue in method and had fun with it for a week. Then I needed to get them out because they were annoying my head!
