I've been an at-home haircoloring guru for the last couple of years, but this time I have a question I need to ask you all. I have had auburn-brown hair for a while now (going on two years this August) and I'm just getting bored. I never thought I'd get bored of red, but I am. My natural hair color is a bronze brown and I have a very warm skin tone.

Currently, my hair is L'Oreal Féria Chocolate Cherry, which is a Deep Burgundy Brown, or a shade level 3.6. It's been two months since I last colored it, so my hair is actually quite lighter and brighter, more of an auburn.

My question is: if I put on a Beige Brown Hi-Lift, what do you think the results would be? I have already about an inch of beige brown roots, and I know that the great things about hi-lifts (or the Féria ones I've worked with in the past, on my natural brown/black-haired mom) is that unlike normal coloring dyes or bleaches, they don't lift the hair color a certain degree of shades. Instead, they have a set result. That way, I think my roots would come out the same color as my colored ends... EXCEPT...

My colored ends are red. So, what happens when you put a shade 5.3 Beige Brown Hi-Lift on 3.6 burgundy red dyed hair? Especially with Feria, because it really sticks to you.

You can't put lighter dye on top of darker dye.  It will not lift the dye out and lighten your hair.  Your hair will get DARKER.  Plus, the ends of your hair are more porous, so they will actually start to look muddy.
You need to remove the darker dye with a product like Colorfix before you can go lighter.
I'd stay away from Feria... It's VERY bad for your hair.
