i just got highlights today and it looks very nice. my hair is kind of back in shape it's better cause after i had my son i straightened my hair at home and did it wrong and ruined my hair. now my hair is healthy enough to highlight my hair so it was done and it looks nice but my hair is still in layers cause of the breakage i had from what i did to my hair. anyway my stylist said i can straighten my hair after highlights but after a month or so, then she says in 2 months later when i go to get my haircut done that i should wait longer cause a relaxer would be harsh on my hair. now after getting highlights she is asking me why i want my hair straightened with a relaxer cause it http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=400850# - will "dry" my hair out and that i should think long and hard about it. now, is she saying that my hair wil break off when it is "dry"? cause i called another salon and they say that i can straighten my hair and it wont break and that i can use a moisturizer if my hair is "dry" so should i get my straightening or not? i want nice hair but getting 2 different opinions. just wondering cause i have natural curl in my hair and hate it. i have tried straightening irons and it's a pain for me to do that everyday for it only to have a natural curl once the http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=400850# - heat /humidity hits it. i even bought a different brush to curl my hair under now but was so upset once she told me first i can straighten it and now she is talking me out of it.

Ok, my point on view is go with what you think. I have layers, highights and my hair isn't frizzy or damaged. I straighten my hair quite a lot but I make sure I wash it lots so it doesn't go dry and horrid. Basically go with what YOU think. If you have 2 different stylists telling you two different things they might be telling you what they think anyway.

I suggest you straighten it but maybe start off not straightening it too much.

Hope that helped,

Relaxer are not only for AfroAmerican hair!! I have mine relaxed and I am hispanic with curly hair, and to tell you the truth, I LOVE IT! Probably that hair stylist is afraid of treatting hair that is not AfroAmerican (or have no clue on how to)
Look for a real Relaxer Professional in a hair salon. She/He will know what kind of relaxing product to use in your hair, he/she will analize your hair texture and go from there, also take care of your hair, use protein treatments in every wash, and deep condition a lot. Also use the MaxiGlide  flat iron to get it straight with a good hair straighting balm. It gives you amazing shine and resultamd hair will not friz in humidity.
Hope this help.
