I just did new strand tests and guess what? Success!! I passed the banana yellow stage in about 40 minutes with a little heat on a swatch I put in a plastic baggie. I used a blue based bleach this time. (Clairol Maxi blonde)
it worked so much better than the other bleach I used. The hair was a pale yellow color.

Then I put my toner in which is a pale blonde with absolutley no yellow in it. (Loreal #100 lightest natural blonde) When I washed the toner out the hair was the same color as before it went in still a pale yellow.

I left the toner on for about 25 min. as it said to and it still looked pale yellow, the same color as when it went in. So I put it in again for about 20 min. and when it came out it was still a pale yellow. It didn't take the toner
color I guess.

My question is: 1. What could have happened?
2. If I condition my hair swatch after the bleach and before the toner will that make the color take better? I am thinking that maybe I did not rinse the bleach off of it good enough and the bleach ate the toner color so to speak.
Is that possible?

Does anyone know of a website with pictures of what the pale blonde stage should look like? I would love to see it just so I know if I had the right pale blonde or if I went too pale.

Thank you for you advice Forest.

Thanks,
gina <- at least got to a pale yellow

Hi gina 75:

It sounds as though you are having some good luck with the bleaching process. One bit of advice on the toner. If your swatch is still showing yellow you might consider a violet based toner. Try this out and see if you get rid of the yellow. I believe the neutral or natural blonde toner you are still putting in a base of yellow or a base of red, blue, and yellow (beige). Try the violet based toner and write back and let me know if it worked.
