Please someone help quick. My hair is naturally medium brown and was dyed dark brown 3 months ago. My husband is coming home and mentioned he wanted me to try to go lighter. I went to the saloon and asked to get it a light golden brown and walked out a copper head. I don't like the red. I want a light brown with blonde highlights. But the lady had to strip my hair and then dye it this color and now it's fried!!!!!!! HELP PLEASE. I was so excited and wanted to look perfect for him and now I don't even want to leave the house. I have a month to fix this. Thank you.

depending on how long ago this happened, and wehter youve put more dye on top of this red color, go back to the salon and tell them that your unhappy with the service that you recieved, and that you dont like the color that was given to you, and they should fix this for free. while youre there, have them do a deep conditioning to solve the dryness.

I called and told her I was unhappy with the red color and she said that was the one I picked and to just wash it a lot - I am not going back there. I will pay whatever it takes to fix this, I am just afraid of making it worse.

You could try Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo in an attempt to tone down the red. (it might be a long shot, but I think it's worth a try since it won't cause more damage.)
The red may fade as you wash it and with time. Do you know what color you chose? If the red is from color (and not from your own pigment beneath the dye), it really should fade quite a bit!
In any case, condition your hair a lot. Find a deep conditioner with a lot of proteins and leave it in with a warm towel wrapped around you head for 10 about minutes. Do that 2-3 times per week.
So if you can live with it for a few weeks, see if the red fades on its own. Re-assess the situation from there.
At that point... or when you can't wait any longer, go to a colorist who is knowledgeable on corrective color. (Call around, etc.)
If the red has faded, you may be able to simply get a few foil highlights to acheive the lighter look you want.
If there's still too much of a red tone, a good, experienced colorist will be able to assess the condition of your hair and determine the best corrective action.

I'd say if you have the money, definitly get a professional to fix it ! :o) Let them know EXACTLY what you want. Make sure you tell them that you want a light GOLDEN brown, NOT REDDISH BROWN, hehe, just to make sure they get the point, and tell them what happened before (it seems that some people's hair just tends more towards red than others...there are things they can use to remedy that).

Otherwise, what i'd do is go to sallys and get a color remover like colorfix, use that (your hair will then turn a horrid light orange color, after the red dye is stripped-that's normal) color fix is a VERY gentle color remover, but you should def. condition aLOT after that.

then pick out a good light golden or neutral brown color, and perhaps add a "Red remover" (you can also get them at sallys, its a tiny packet of stuff you add to the dye to help tone down unwanted red).

i've had good luck using Wella color charms, and heard lots of good things about Revlon Colorsilk.
