I have natural black hair and use L'oreal Hicolor RED to color my hair. I want to go bleach blonde. I have bleached my hair successfully when it was black but have never attempted to do it while it was red. Do i need colrfix or can I just bleach over the red hair dye it is permanent.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in Advance.

Hey mustb, I hope this helps. They said you're right, use colorfix and then bleach..

Hi Ivy,
Well, there are no guarantees that your hair will totally let go of the red, how long have you been dying it for? Anyway, I think your best avenue would be to get a color remover and remove what color you can from your hair. Then the ONLY way you will be able to remove any left over red is with bleach. You may have to use a high volume of peroxide if there is still a lot of color left in your hair. Also depending on how long your hair is you may have damage, if your hair is shorter then you can probably do it will a little damage but not too bad, if it's longer then your ends may get fried and you may be forced to cut them shorter. It all depends really on how long that color has been in there, how many applications are on there, and also how dark your hair is now. If it's more of a strawberry blonde you will have better luck then if it's a dark red where you need to lift 3 or 4 shades.
Hope this helped. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank You for your help. I went to Sallys and got the Colorfix and used it and the I bleached my hair with Paul Mitchell bleach with a 40 volume peroxide for about 30 minuets and now I have Very pretty and undamaged blonde ( white ) hair I love it.

I just went blonde from my dyed red hair that was color stripped from dyed black hair. I'm surprised my hair survived after I went through all of this.
When I went a dark red on top of light brown semi-permanent, I only remained dark red for a few weeks. Then I decided to use ColorFix to remove the red and brown semi's. It did remove the colors the first round. Then I did bleach cap/bath method. It lifted my color stripped hair to brassy yellow/gold with a bit of strawberry blond. It's expected because of the dyes I had on earlier. Finally, I toned my hair with ash blonde which did the trick for now. It's not a pale blonde but a medium blonde color which is just fine with me because I did this from dyed black and red hair. Hope that helped but I think a professional is a safe bet.

Goodluck with red. It is the worst color to strip besides black. Your hair is going to be orange without a doubt and yellow, and your roots will probably be white if your natural color has come through. I have done this before. I am a stylist as well. Please use 40 volume.. Don't listen if someone says its bad for your hair, or youll be paying for it down the road with 3 treatments of 30 volume. Leave the 40 on for 1 hr. and make sure you put a bag over your head to tie it up so the heat will help change the pigment quicker. Also use a blowdryer to add a little bit of heat. Make sure you get an ON SCALP application and never try to bleach your hair to WHITE. Or it will fall out. Please take my advice on that if anything. Your hair works on a scale of 1-10. 10 being black. 1 being palest yellow. If your hair is yellow. You will have to buy a Purple Based toner. If it is Orange - Blue, If both. Violet -Blue. In the end everything will work out, I promise!! PATIENCE!!! Never OVERBLEACH!!
