I just recently had my hairlocs removed after having them in for about two and a half months...and the amount of hair I have lost is unbelievable  ...I mean my hair was somewhat thin and weak before, but not nearly this bad. Based on some research I did on hairlocs, I was expecting some damage, but not like this..I think the thing that bothers me the most is that my stylist kept reassuring me over and over again that there would be absolutely NO damage..what a crock of sh*t that was! Now my hair is so thin, I'm almost too embarrased to go out in public...maybe its the shock of going from having such thick hair to almost nothing...So now I'm probably going to let my hair rest for a while and then save up for great lengths, which I've heard better things about. For those who've had great lengths put in and removed, is there a lot of damage with this method as well? Sorry for the long post I'm just a little upset and needed to vent But all you great lengths people out there, please fill me in!

Im so sorry girl. But if youve had damage and your hair is weak or thin I dont think GL or ANY fusion method is a good option for you. Or any individual method for that matter. If you are absolutely against a weft method of install, the only individual methods Id consider would be the silicone lined microrings. They have a silicone lining inside the rings to help protect the hair. Or pinchbraids done by someone who knows what they are doing can be very good.
I personally feel anyone with weak brittle or damaged hair isnt a candidate for an individual install. But Im NOT a professional, so thats just an unqualified opinion from a long time extensions wearer. And Ive worn quite a few different methods. I wore individuals for a long time. My hair was damaged from continuous bleaching but the individual strand methods were to much on my weak fragile hair. Ive been wearing a weft method for 7 months now and Im finally seeing improvement. (I cut out the bleach a year ago)

I've heard horror stories about great lengths. I think Jennifer Aniston had GL and said it ruined her hair. Perhaps you can do clip-ins while you are letting your hair rest. ------------- |

that is aweful you had a problem with hairlocs, unfortunately, most of it lies on the install, removal and home care, as with all extensions, there is some amount of damage that Can happen.
It could be like u said you got used to thick hair and now its gone. When i do hairlocs, i use a different tool then they use to re round the cylinders.

From experience trying to remove great lengths extensions from clients hair ( i dont use it myself) I would avoid it , I find the bonds just solid, that stuff is like super glue! I wont touch anyones hair with them in now i just recommend they go back to the stylist who installed them, they are great for staying in but a nioghtmare to get out! I wouldnt recommend sewn in wefts for you as this would thin out your hair even more ( due to sections needed for the weave) i think the protac tape is best or even removable clip in extensions for now as malibu suggested x |
