Ok...so ive read through a lot of different website, and this forum, and I'm still left with a lot of questions on how to go about fixing my color from the orange/blonde weird color it is now back to brown (most likely)

(PICTURES INCLUDED BELOW)

History:
I naturally have very dark brown hair, and have been getting highlights at the salon for years now. On my last trip to the salon, I got double foils, half medium brown (which ended up fading to a lighter orange-ish brown, because my hair usually wont hold the darker dye because the lower portion of my hair was basically all blonde from the highlights i get) and a light blonde.  I have been lazy, and havent gotten my highlights redone in about 4 months, so i decided it was time to get them fixed. I had a wedding to go to, and knew my roots were horrible, but didnt have the time to get an appointment.

SO being the smart (ha) person that i am, i decided it was time to just go all blonde for a while, and maybe i could pull it off myself. So i went to the drug store (first mistake) and bought clairol's born blonde Ultra Blue, Thinking that it would lift my roots enough, and then i would just apply the bleach to the lower portion of my hair for a shorter time, since it was basically all blonde anyways from the highlights (other than the light brownish-orange (basically darker orange brown) color i had in from my lowlights).
WELL, the born blonde did not lift my color enough at my roots, so my roots are a light orange/gold blonde, whatver u want to call it..... The bleach didnt lighten the current highlights i have to a significantly lighter color (thank god)....AND i dotn really understand the whole concept of not being able to bleach out color, but the "lowlights" i had in are basically the same orangey color they were before. SO the overall result is....orange/gold hair. It is disgusting looking, havent left the house in a couple days while im trying to figure out what to do (thank god its summer). I'm stubborn and intent on fixing this myself, but need some help for the master plan! While it would be nice to go all blonde, and while my hair isnt that damaged from all the bleaching/coloring over the years, I think it is just best to go back to dark hair for a while until my hair gets a rest, at which point i will probably just go back to having highlights/lowlight througout. I love being a blonde but it just seems like so much work right now.....so im pretty sure my mistakes were a) not buying a strong enough bleach and b) not first removing the color lowlights out of the bottom of my hair....

So now to how to fix it...i'd like to go to a medium to dark brown, but i dont want it to look to golden, or ashy, or green, or anything other than a nice healthy looking dark brown...So how do i go about doing this because my hair is multi-tonal? i have the bleached blonde highlights, the colored lowlights throughout, and the orange roots. Ive read that you should use a red protein filler first to dye blonde hair, but because my roots and some hair throughout already have the orange tone, is this necessary? because of the orange throughout my hair, i would think that dying it an ashy medium brown would work, but im worried about what that will do to the highlights. Should i buy a neutral? or a golden? or just get the red filler....but then after i get the red filler, what color brown should i buy???

I'd really like to fix this at home myself, stubborn i guess, and just dont feel like dishing out the money for color correction (although i can afford it if it looks hopeless). so i would really appreciate all the input you can give me!!

Here a links to some pictures: ( i took a bunch because i couldnt get the right lighting)

Only picture i could find of my hair before this disaster (as you can see it looks basically blonde, and the roots were coming in)

ok...so i know most of you will probably say go to the salon, but i really want to try to fix this one myself...

So, go brown or stay blonde???

If i go brown, what steps do i need to take to do this? color remover? filler? what shade of brown to offset both the orange, and not make the blonde look dull or ashy??

what color is my hair right now???

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks

I've been through this similar nightmare.  I ended up going all blonde.  I am really surprised that the ultra blue didn't work for you.....that was what I used after I bleached the *** out of my hair.  Maybe try the MAXI blonde.  It seems to be a little stronger.

My experience is that trying to go back to brown with bleached hair doesn't work.  At least not with the box colors.  They ALWAYS wash out  and FRY your hair.  Whatever you do...I would NOT use an ASH shade either.  It will turn your lightest blonde hair green.  It happened to me....trust me.  If you go darker, I would try a neutral shade or golden shade.  But my experience with golden shades is always RED.

Personally, I would stay blonde if I were you.  I think that it would be much easier to achieve the blonde you would like than the dark brown at this point.  Especially if you have a wedding soon.  A salon might not even want to touch it in fear of damaging it anymore than it already is as well.

That's just my 2 cents.  I am not by any means an expert...Ive just gone through it personally.  Even now, after dying my hair medium brown, I am back to blonde unintentionally.  It is just so hard to cover.  And you can't "color over color".

Good luck!  Let us know what you decide!

I also think you should stay blonde, especially since you said you "love" being blonde. I also love being blonde, and one time I stupidly went way darker (it was a mix of blonde, DARK brown and red) and I HATED it. It was the WORST thing I ever could have done. (Not to say that can't be pretty, of course; it just wasn't for me.)

I take it you already read Claude's info on color? I really can't help you with any of that. I just wanted to add my two cents about you staying blonde. Personally, I think you should just go have it fixed professionally, especially because of this wedding. I'm SURE someone should be able to get you to the perfect blonde. Find a "color expert." Even if some are afraid to touch it (maybe they just don't know what they're doing?), there's someone else who will. I would make sure they deal with "color correction." I know I used to go to a girl who was magical -- she could fix ANYTHING and did! And don't be embarassed. I hope that's not why you don't' want to go to the salon. If it is, well, just suck it up and go!

hmmm..okay...so if i decide to just fix the blonde...do u think i should first use some sort of color remover for the bottom portion? and when i try the bleach again, what brand do you recommend? just go for the clairol born blonde Maxi? or head up to sally's beauty suppply and get something a bit stronger? thanks for the replies so far :) i know i would regret going back to brown, or at least would be getting highlights put back in within a couple weeks  btw its not so much being embaressed to go the salon, but finding a good one around here is hard, ive had a lot of problems with my salon (hair falling out after a perm, color coming out horrible) so thats why im trying to fix this myself.

I really think that the Maxi will do the trick....at least my experiences with it have been really good.  I even use it to highlight my husband's BLACK hair and it works great.

I dont know anything about color removers.  I would think that they would be damaging though.....

Send us pics afterwards!!

i would say go to a professional. in my experience, unless you know what you are doing with undertones, know how your hair will react to different types of dye, and have three arms, it is very difficult to correct multi colored strands by yourself.

learn to love what you were born with
you can do anything if you set your mindto it (just dont try this with hair, that could turn out bad)
