Hi, I really really REALLY want to color my hair red. But not a wimpy,
"is it red or is it... brown? reddish brown? brownish red?" sort of
red. A RED red. A red that is DEEP, dark, vibrant, but completely
natural-looking. And out of a box. I've been looking for quite some
time, however everything seems too unnatural. I guess it'll look
natural when it's on my hair, but I don't want to take any chances. Can
anyone help me?
For reference: my hair is a medium brown now with the slightest, most wimpiest tinge of red.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I'm completely aware that I've said the word red too many times in this post. ;)

From what ive read about going red lol to get a bright shade your hair needs to be lightened first, otherwise it just kinda mixes with your natural colour to get that auburn red you dont want.
Id go and ask a salon what theyd do to get it bright red, once you know how to do it if ure brave enough you can get the supplies off ebay and do a diy =D

well, this is how i dye my hair a bright natural red. my hair is naturally med brown, so i lighten it to a medium orange color with bleach (use 20 vol developer and however much bleach powder the package says...you can get it at sallys), and then dye it red with henna (i use body art quality henna from www.hennaforhair.com) It is acutally good for your hair, and makes it gorgeusly shiny Its the only way i can get my hair RED red, instead of reddish brown or an unnatural red, which it always seems to turn with regular hair dye.
if you want to use regular hair dye, the best one i found was matrix socolor (its a professional dye). mix 7rr and 9cg colors 50/50, and it makes a nice bright red. however, you might have to use 30 vol developer, depending on how dark your hair is (the higher the developer #, the more it lifts color out of your hair)
hope that helps!!! i can try and post pics of my hair so you can see if its what you are trying to get.

I would go to a stylist. I have tried almost every red dye in a box and none of them really look natural.
Whatever you do~DO NOT use clairol natural instincts in the color cinnastcik. It looks kinda red-brown and not very scary, but it turned my hair RONALD MCDONALD red.
The only one I ever used that looked pretty natural was light auburn I think, but I think you may have to have it lightened all over first like 22chik said.
I'd be careful with that HENNA,I hear alot of bad stuff about it and you arent supposed to it with alot of products...
