I knew a lot of you guys are having luck with the Protac, but I have found it very damaging upon removal. I use both the C-22 or acetone to remove and it does come out easily, but it comes out with a lot of the natural hair.
I wore them two times myself, and each time it pulled out a whole baggy of hair, only after wearing them for 5 weeks. I last time I thought I was going to go bald.
And then yesterday, I removed some Protac from one of my clients, and again, gobs of her own hair came out. I was horrified.

I cant understand why people have to use Acetone, mine comes out easy with Proclaim shampoo remover to loosen the tapes then conditioner just slips it away. ------------- |

Very true. I'm doing a 6 week removal on someone tomorrow who has never worn extensions before. While I was *very* forthcoming on what a removal can be like, I know there's this possibility.
I am shocked by the success of acetone removal. Even with total saturation, the acetone evaporates/dries too quick and the tape's adhesion kicks back in leaving it stuck and gobbed. ------------- http://shrinkies.net - Extension Supplies & Virgin Brazilian Hair |

I'm kinda freaking out!!!! I have only had them in a short time!!! please people that have been wearing them for a long time tell us some good stories too!!!
I know shedding is normal after removal but how much is normal????? Posted By: valentine319

| Well average hair shedding is approximately 100-150 per day. I would estimate when wearing extensions I shed very little. So take 100 times the number of days. Normally all this hair would be on our bathroom floor or in our brush. I personally have no problem getting the tapes out. A nice deep condition and they all slide out. The liquid gold takes a lot more work to get out. |

Do you think the hair is breaking off or falling out? Are there white bulbs at the ends of the hairs?

Rocket, well I have a good story! And, as I'm wont to do...show pictures of it, too!
This first set is beyond horrifying. 
In the summer of 2005 I had tested the microrings with the screw thread inside them. I had made an appt with Boogiemama in WA to have heatseals and ProHair put in. I put my deposit down and everything. A week before my appt, I took the rings out and it chewed my hair up so bad that I had little to any hair left on the sides. You can see through it! The only long hair showing is what was not inside the microring. You can see the section of hair loss in the back where a whole layer broke off. I cancelled my appt and lost the deposit (my choice) because I didn't have enough hair to do strand extensions. Boogie was so nice and urged me to come up so she could work her magic but, frankly, I was too embarassed to go anywhere without hair in. Enter Pro-Tac in the fall of 2005. I've been wearing this method almost exclusively for the past year. Here's my hair this month without any extensions at all:

Its odd how we all have different success and failure with differrent products. I for one find protact and removal with acetone one of the easiest removals by far. I saturate the wefts/tapes with acetone and as soon as the acetone has saturated the tapes they slide out with EASE, no pulling whatsoever. And I can normallly pull the entire strip of tape off the weft in one piece. No gooey, globby mess at all. And I rarely ever pull a hair out of my head. SO long as I let the acetone saturate the tape and dont pull on it before it releases. i have one client who i use the protac on. I have used amms remover and now the remover i got from sheri, both worked great, i spray it on let it sit about 15 mins, then i take my rat tail comb, the end and gently lift her own hair away from the tape and the whoel weft with the tape on it slides off, then i peel the tape off the weft, total removal, 20 mins. then i shampoo her hair, let it sit with a purifying shampoo then condition, dry and reinstall.

Thanks! I'm holding the camera over my head plus I'm tilted back a little so it actually looks longer than what it is. The length only hits the top of my bra strap and right at 6" over the shoulders when I bring it forward. chik, now if someone can just wean me off the sushi I'll be fine. I probably have toxic levels of mercury. 
The screwed rings (which has double meaning for me) did do a number. Some have reported no damage from them so there ya go. ;) Regular rings, protubes, silicone lined all work about the same for me. If I get them open ok, I'm home free. I think the Protac works for most people very well, but I am one of those few unfortunate people whose hair can't really take any kind of semi-permanent method. I have also seen it in my work with clients too, that no matter what method I try, they still get damage. It's a matter of the hair not being 'anchored' into the scalp as well. I think it's probably a genetic thing.
There are some people out there who will not be able to wear any semi-permanent attachment method, and then I suggest they wear clip ins. I really can only wear clips ins, and even then I have had some breakage.
For the record, I don't have any trouble getting the Protac out at all, it's just that gobs of my own hair comes with it! Thank god for clip ins!

That is really too bad you're losing so much hair with the Protac, Metalgirl. But you know your own hair and you're probably right about the genetic anchoring thing.
If people are having trouble with protac removal using acetone, try using orange oil cleaner (the oily kind, not the degreaser). I swear, it takes my protacs out in less than one minute. I just spray it on the tape/weft, let it sit for a minute, then gently tug and out it comes, no problem! It also softens the tape from the weft and it comes off in one gloopy strip. |

| I am surprised your hair is coming out with the protac but can withstand clip ins. In my experience, clips put a lot more tension on the hair than tape methods. |
