Okay.  So I posted a long time ago about using Colorfix on my hair to lift the numerous applications of permanent dark mahogany.  Yeah, it didn't work out.  Roots lighter, lengths darker, etc...

Well I finally got my hair to a point where I dyed it about 2 shades lighter to a dark brown auburn.  I'm still wanting it to be lighter (I'm never satisfied! lol).

I know that the only way to lighten darkened hair is with bleach, so I used Manic Panic bleach on a small section of hair.  It worked good, lifting to a golden yellowish color... the lengths were still a problem, so I rinsed out the bleach and put another application on just the lengths (total of 90 minutes with the extra 15-20 I did on the lengths w/ second application).  Now it is finally to a point where it will accept color evenly root to tip.

Problem is, I need to do this to all of my hair.  Months ago, I had highlights, then I used Colorfix, then I used L'Oreal HiColor (has a lightener in the dye) and now I want to lighten all of my hair with bleach.  My bleached-out test strand came out okay, no breakage, no frizz; healthy looking.  I have test stranded some box colors on this strand area, but none are as vibrant as I wanted (with the bleached hair, color seems washed out... why?).

Anyway, to my point.  Can I used L'Oreal Hicolor (says on box: FOR DARK HAIR ONLY, no pre-lighting neccessary since it already has lightener in it-- but it came out uneven on my hair the first time even when I used Colorfix) on my hair after it's been bleached out?  The reccommended developer is 20 (if your hair is relaxed or chemically processed) or 30.  Can you use 10 volume?  Would that even take?  I want bright hair, just not melted hair...

So in short: Having already lightened my hair in the past with Colorfix and highlights weeks before using that, can I bleach out my entire head and use L'Oreal Hicolor with a 20 or 10 vol. and not melt my hair?

Thanks guys, please answer!

u need to lighten ur have to the level that u want it to be then depost the color. E.I. if u want a level 6 (med) brown then get a level 6 brown color (warm, cool, neutral) then determine what level ur at now like probably a 4. So then u can get the developer. 10 only deposits, u only use that for color not lightener. 20 liftes one level and deposits, 30 2 levels. 40 lifts 3 levels. so if u r a 4 and wanna go to a 6 u need 20 or 30 depending on if u want ur brown warm or cool. Leave the developer lower for cooler colors. u can only go 2 levels at a time with color. n if ur has is TOO light and u want a brown that is more then 2 levels down from blonde ur hair is then u need a filler.( using the color with out developer first, then applying the color overtop)
