Hey everyone!

I'm very new to the whole extension thing, but I have been reading a lot about it on this website and it has been very helpful!

I have found a place where I live that apparently does them very well(coming from people who have had them done there before), but I'm not so sure about the type of hair that they use. They said it would cost $70.00CAD for a bag of 18 inch hair, and then $35.00 for each additional layer, which does seem a little too cheap to me. I haven't asked what brand of hair that they use, but they said they do use human hair. There was this one girl that I had seen get them done there and her hair seemed very tangly and matted almost, and she just had them recently done.

Now I am just kind of wondering if I would be better off buying my hair and then getting them to do it? My hair is black, and I would be wanting black as well to add on for some thickness and length. My hair is already at my bra line, but straightening and dying it has really thinned it out.

Any opinions on the pricing at the place, or ideas on good places to buy the hair myself??

Thank you so much in advance!

Hello & welcome!

I would say if you're getting good recommendations about this salon, go ahead and try them. I've had some good installs with < $70 hair and some really bad hair at twice the price.

Sometimes people with good hair can let it get to the point of what you saw. One person's bad hair wouldn't change my view of a whole salon necessarily.

Give it a go and take your camera. We love photos here!

i would talk to some more people that have their hair done there.....but, since you have already seen people with matted! hair from there, and as your hair is black (there are GREAT options on the internet to buy dark colored hair)....you could talk to the ladies that work there and ask if the hair they use is 'remy' , if it is 'cuticle intact, cuticle aligned hair'....and see if they know what you are talking about or if they have a 'wtf' look :)

here's some places i think are good for buying haaar, and i hope you come back and post some pics of how it all turns out :)

Thank you so much for the replies!

I'm going to go in there this week and ask them some questions and see how it goes, and ask to see the hair n stuff. And if the hair doesnt seem too good then I'll just buy some. But I understand what you mean amm about the price thing, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt!

When I do get them, I'll for sure make sure to put some pictures up!

Hi Tinkerbell,
I would ask them if the hair they want to put on is not only 100% human but that the quality is Remy Cuticle.
That's what makes a difference, beautiful hair has to be Remy Cuticle (its cuticle is intact or almost)
If it's not, honestly you don't want that!
You should ask questions to the girl who tried their hair before, ask her after how many shampoos/weeks she got her hair tangled and dull.
You can ask them to put on hair that you purchase youself, tell them you want Remy Cuticle hair, or virgin indian, they are the best for darker hair.
It's more expensive but you'll be happy.

I second the Remy comment-
Be sure that any human hair that you will be wearing (aside from clip ins) is cuticle-correct. Wihtout the cuticle, the hair will break down quickly and become a tangled mess. The only time I ever use non- cuticle correct hair is when I wear clip ins. If I am taking the hair out every day and not washing it every time I wash my hair, I can get away with non- remy. But any semi-permanant extensions method should only be done with Remy cuticle correct IMO.
Otherwise, like AMM said, I would not base your opinion of this stylist/salon on one person's experienc.e Some people totally do not take care if their hair extensions- they expect a miracle or something. Hair extesions need ot be treated with even more care than your own hair.  Improper washing/brushing/conitioning and wearing can wreck havok on your extensions. Just some TLC goes a long way.
