Hello, I'm trying to get my hair back to my original haircolor. My begining haircolor is medium brown. Currently my hair is highlighted with blonde highlights. Can someone instruct me on how to go about getting me back to my original roots.

also want to note that I contacted a clairol rep about this and they recommend that first I color hair with a reddish blonde dye then right after use a natural light brown color diluted with 2 oz of shampoo and watch every five minutes but no longer than 20 minutes, but advised that hair will have red tones, and to call back after a month to find out how to get rid of red tones. They are advising using the reddish blonde, because when you highlight your hair you take the pigment out of your hair and this is like a filler. I'm not sure about having red tones in my hair!!

Hi heather, i just had the same problem :) however now i have very red hair lol not so cool seeing as i had a job interview this morning!! The clairol reps are right, however you would be better to purchase a filler which you apply before the colour itself. They recommend you opt for a warmer shade of your colour because then the chances of your hair going green are reduced. However you have to be very careful you dont go too warm because the blonde bits will pick up ALOT of the red in the colour. Remember if it all turns to sh*te you can always semi permanent over the top (with a darker brown). Im in the process of deciding whether i want to strip my hair then match it with my natural colour...which i think i will end up doing. Either way it may be an idea to contact a professional and at least get advice with your colour selection. However bear in mind even professionals dont always get it right (aka my red hair lol) it was supposed to turn out a slightly warmer brown than i already had.

thank you for your reply, I'm still trying to decide what to do, I was even thinking about getting john frida's color glazing in brown just to tone down the hightlights until my hair grows out. Heather

Yup that would probably work, even better would be lowlights in your natural colour. Either cap or foils depending on how the highlights have been done. You could buy an at home kit and get a friend to do the cap pulling/foils =) my blonde was just so awful that i had to get rid of it asap! lol

Actually what I ended up doing was getting a demi perm. haircolor from sally beauty supply store, the colors come out darker than expected so I bought an ash blonde and my hair color came out exactly like my natural color and I even got some lighter pieces from my original highlights. Thanks again for responding to my questions.
