| Well I'm paricularly not a fan, and have never really followed her career, but I really doubt that if her career is ruined is because she cut her hair. I think every artist has had a hair booboo at some point, but hair grows back and people get over it. I mean, if you are a real fan of someone and the person's talent is real (and not about having the right look) you wouldn't stop being a fan. You might be dissapointed but eventually you would get over it. Besides I think if her record label realized that cutting her hair drastically affected her career, they would just slap some extensions on her. |

I have to ask why you'd even pose the question. On what basis would you conclude that Alanis's career is currently "ruined?" Because she's been out of the public eye for a few months? Low sales of her Greatest Hits CD? (I don't know if they are low, just a thought.)
I haven't seen any evidence to support the idea of a "ruined" career. Alanis made the talk show rounds in the spring singing her cover of Seal's "Crazy" sporting long dark hair (extensions I assume) and seemed just fine. I haven't heard one comment about her cut in the pop culture world like when Keri Russell cut hers. And IMHO, I like her music a lot, I liked her short hair cut a lot, and it wouldn't occur to me to change my opinion of her music because of her hair. I like that blonde look. I hated her hair long and wild and hated the short style she had. Those pictures might be the best I ever saw of Alanis ------------- Change is good for the soul and fun to talk about! |

It sort of took away some of her credebility as an artist all about accepting yourself as you are and what not, though maybe her message has always been more along the lines of doing what makes you happy, and so true fans would deal with the change. ------------- And, I...I've got nothing to offer you, no no, just this heart deep and true, which you say you don't need...Know in your soul, please...For haven't you me, with you now?  First, Alanis' career is not *ruined*. Her sloppy, shorter haircuts have not *helped* her professionally, but I think that the larger reasons that fans have left her in droves is b/c her happier lyrics fail to resonate as well with those who enjoyed her commiseration with them.
I do believe that even though she was looking for something fresh when she cut her hair, *ironically*, the decision seems to have made people think of the mega-successful Alanis as "old news". (BTW, *I* remain a huge fan of her music.) Blessings, Bob

Bob I agree with you. Her music changed and well the fans didn't like it. Look at Metallica after their Black CD I think they went down hill. Alanis always did happy music as well as sad music. Some of her most famous songs were "happy" songs. I think the problem is that her more recent music doesn't really have any substance to it. Alanis' hair WAS marvellous and it was a huge part of how you percieved her - she was a hippie rocker chick. I'm sorry, but she looked HORRIBLE with short hair. This is because she has a very unusual, long face shape. It proves to me how blind some "cut it short!" people are that they didn't notice this - her face is quite literally designed for long hair. I think she looks marvellous as a blonde. It needs to be more vibrant though, and she needs to grow it back down to her waist. Having golden curls down to her waist would look beautiful. |

Although difficult without damage. Alot of it would probably have to be fake to achieve an attractive look.

| Long golden or strawberry blonde curls(with some multicoloured streaks) is my ideal hair. I've decided that's what I'm going for. I've seen people go blonde from bright red before so I think if I let it fade enough(going to go more and more "Yellow" in stages) I can do it. Then I'm going to save up for hair extensions. |
