went to the shop and they wanted to highlight it only/ with blonde -- said it would be too damagingto go completely blonde.  So I agreed because the upkeep would be alot of money.  Well she dyed it first a med brown my whole head for 45 mins not sure why i was under the dryer 25 mins and out for 20.  She rinsed the color out and it was exactly the same -- no color differece at all. She put on the color remover next and it processed to a light orange color. She tried to dye again with a med brown and now I have strawberry blonde hair. I was told I have buildup on my hair and to use a chelating shampoo redkin cleansing creme and to use redkin extreme shampoo and conditioner for a month then come back and she would try again. This is the third stylist I have gone to. The first two I went to were suppose to dye it to a light brown and all I got was an orange color. I did get highlights a while back, and the highlights were honey (she used foil) but the brown color was sort of red too. This last sylist said it was buildup. Do you think that is the case.  What can I do to my hair to not damage it any more I need to put some kind of color on it I will have grey roots soon

Question 1) What is your natural haircolor?

So I agreed because the upkeep would be alot of money.  Well she dyed it first a med brown my whole head for 45 mins not sure why i was under the dryer 25 mins and out for 20.

Question 2) Has your hair been previously colored or was your hair untinted, virgin hair? If it was previously colored with an artificial color putting more color on it won't lighten it. The reason she probably put you under the dryer is to help with the lightening process...however if your hair was previously colored putting more color on it won't lighten it. Color will NOT lift artificial pigment from the hair strands. This could be why your haircolor didn't change.

She rinsed the color out and it was exactly the same -- no color differece at all.

She put on the color remover next and it processed to a light orange color. She tried to dye again with a med brown and now I have strawberry blonde hair.

Question 3.) Why did she color condition strip your hair? What was the color originally and what color were you hoping to achieve or want to be? Is your natural haircolor a dark or dirty blonde? If so and she wanted to make you a medium brown she probably should have pre-pigmented your hair with a filler then put the medium brown over that. This could be why you have strawberry blonde hair...let's hope it doesn't fade to pink!

I was told I have buildup on my hair and to use a chelating shampoo redkin cleansing creme and to use redkin extreme shampoo and conditioner for a month then come back and she would try again.

Ans.) Just from how these stylist are approaching your hair shows me they are not very experienced with haircolor, especially corrective color which is what you are in need of. When she stripped your hair and it was orange she should have used a blue based ash series at your target level

any more.

Ans.) Give your hair a rest from chemical services such as color. Everytime you color your hair with permanent color you break 3-5% of the disulfide binds in the hair which account for 33% of the hair's tensile strength. When you keep coloring and coloring and coloring....this is why your hair becomes dry, brittle, lifeless and lacks shine.

I need to put some kind of color on it I will have grey roots soon

My natural hair color is med brown but it has been colored before many times but usually roots only ad through the rest for 5 mins.  I have been getting alot of orange in my hair lately and I was told to bleach it out and start over with what ever color I wanted by one stylist.  She is the first professional to color my hair and it went a brassy brown.  She also cut it and it was sort of gaped so I decided to not go back to her.  I research around and seen color work done by this place so thought I would go there.  Well I went there deciding that if I had to bleach the color out to start over I would just go blonde.  I told her that and she didnt think it was a good idea so she talked me out of it.  I also told her about everything that had been happening to my hair lately and she very confidently said no problem you dont have to have red hair as long as there is color.  So the starting point was sort of light to med brassy orange brown color.  My last color had been maybe 6 weeks ago I had roots.  I have never put color on until I have roots coming out.  So she told me to go with heavy highlights but we had to get it to my natural color first.  So she gave me hair swatches to look at and we decided it was med brown.  So I think she went with ash med brown the first time.  She left that on for 45 mins and washed it out and it was exactly the same color which I had told her I had an ash bown color put on it before and thats what I got.  When she was rinsing it out she said I had build up on my hair a heavy coating she could feel it.  She went and talked to her associate and he suggested the the I think it was effersol or something I think is a color remover.  It turned a light orange then and they talked about what color to use next they were saying numbers and stuff.  Thats when I got the strawberry blonde which it is a little darker now but still orange.  She said she could put some highlights in it to tone it down but I thought my hair was stressed out enough at this point.   I do remember them talking about green not blue when deciding what color to use the second time.  I did send a message to someone on this site about color she is in princeton west virginia it is like almost 2 hours from here.  It has been 2 weeks since this happened and I hate my hair so much.  I dont know to keep using the chelating shampoo and the redkins extreme shampoo and conditioners or what to do.  I had been oiling my hair also with deep overnight coconut oil and jojoba oil and I had been seeing great improvements in it.  When I went in to see her she said my hair had no split ends and was in good conditon.  It is really dry now thats why I hate to keep using the chelating shampoo but I have been putting nexuss emergency on it.  Maybe a salon treatment.  One good thing though my hair is the same color from root to end well the roots are a little more brown then the rest but its not noticeable.I dont know what to do at this  point I know I will have to do something though for the grey in a few weeks but I dont want to damage my hair any further

That stylist who gave you that advice is a total idiot!

If your hair is medium brown there will always be orange in your hair. The orange in the hair is the underlying or contributing pigment in the hair. The underlying pigment is made up of the 3 primary colors. Blue, Red & Yellow. Blue is the first pigment to leave the hair when lightened as the hair gets lighter red leaves the hair then yellow is the last color to be removed from the hair. If your levels 4-8 you will notice the dominating primary colors in the hair are red & yellow....when you mix red & yellow what color do you get? Orange! That is why you are seeing orange in your hair...it's the underlying pigment and a mixture of the red & yellow....as you lighten the hair to a lighter color that red gradually leaves and you have more yellow as the dominating pigment...which is the foundation for blonde hair. To neutralize the orange you would use a blue based ash color to attain brown.

You could use a demi-permanent color with a blue base.  I did that when I had a hair disaster at home.  I don't know if you live near Sally's, but Wella and Clairol both make demi-permanent colors.  This doesn't lift color from the hair, so it won't be damaging.  GOOD LUCK.
