Karen Shelton or anyone, can you tell me how to do the hot hair weaving with ribbons? I want to try a couple of things for my Winter Formal and am clueless with my hair.

Hi,

I am assuming you want to use ribbon to weave? So here are some instructions....get some ribbon, preferable 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches. The thicker the ribbon the harder it is to manage. Crimp your hair or add waves or curls because you need texture for the weaving to work. Hair that is slick or straight will be harder to weave with ribbon. You can weave straight slick hair with other threading materials but ribbon works best on hair that is clear and has texture.

To weave, wrap a tie that is used on trash bags (you know, the bendy white and black ties) around one end of the ribbon to act as a sort of needle. To weave, lace over and under 1 to 1 1/2 inch sections of the hair. Tie the loose ends under a ponytail or bun in the back. Or you can hide the ends under pieces of your hair. Use a bobbypin to secure into place. It is best to use trash ties that are close to your own hair color and also ditto with the bobby pins.

You can use other items as "needles" other than the trash ties but these are up to you. Depending on the type or ribbon it is best not to put a hole in the end although some stronger ribbons can withstand punching a hole in the end of it.

A hot look is to put your hair up into a ponytail, crimp the ponytail hair and then use one or multiple ribbons "theaded" in the smooth hair near the crown behind the forehead.

I have seen several teens with both matching ribbon to their outfits and also alternating ribbons. It looks very cool. Experiment and have fun.

Best wishes,
Karen Shelton
