Natural strawberry-blonde here. About to dye my hair light brown (permanent color). Would like to know about how often touch-ups may be needed.

The product I'm using is Ion Color Brilliance.

Thanks,
    Jess

[Edit: I also read somewhere that hair should be slightly damp before dying...is this correct?]

If you are using a permanent color, you will need to do your roots every 4-6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows and your personal preference of how much 'natural growth' is showing. Same time frame (approx.) for semi/demi-permanent depending on how often you wash your hair, but it will fade all over.

For permanent color, your hair should be dry and 'dirty'. By that I mean wait a day or two after washing. Your scalp needs the oils to protect it because of the ammonia and/or peroxide. Try to brush/comb as much of the hair products out of it as possible.

With semi/demi-permanent I have had the best luck using it on clean, dry hair. I wash and condition it with color treated shampoo and conditioner, dry it, then apply the color.

Please, please do a strand test first!

Good luck!
