I hope I'm not being annoying by posting so much, but I swear I could write a book with all the hair coloring questions I have! haha Okay, last night I dyed my hair with Ion Brilliance Light Copper Brown. The only "negatives" about the product were my own fault. First off, I left the color on for too long considering my hair had been previously colored. So it turned out a little dark, but not TOO dark by any means. Plus I'm sure it'll fade with washings. The second mistake I made - I added Ardell Red Gold Corrector Plus to the mix and I think it neutralized some of the "copper" tones. I used it only to minimize potential brassiness, but I think it backfired. So now I have darkish brown hair with just a SLIGHT hint of copper. Here are some pictures: This was taken last night right after my hair dried. I'm not sure why it turned out this color in the picture because it's not like that in real life.. but this is the EXACT color I WANT it to be:  These two were taken today. As you can see, it's pretty dark and there isn't much copper to it:   My question is: If I want to get my color the same as what's shown in the first picture, what would be the best way to go about it? Should I Colorfix it and then re-dye it, maybe using Light Copper Blonde? Or would Colorfix not allow me to go that light? Any suggestions? |

well, when you colorfix your hair after dyeing it w/ a permanant color, you will strip out the dye and be left with the orangy color that the developer lifted your hair to. So, yes, color fix does allow you to go lighter if you're looking for a light red/brown color. However it won t lighten you to blonde or anything. i'd suggest you colorfix your hair asap (the sooner, the better w/ colorfix) and then re dye it using the copper blonde color you want. Keep in mind though, that your hair will probably end up a light to medium orange color after colorfix, and will be fairly porous, so you'll want to leave the color on even less time when you re dye. to make sure that you don't get it too dark (or too light either) check it at 5-10 min. intervals when its dyeing (just wipe off a little bit w/a wet washcloth and if its not ready, then just smoosh the wiped off hair into the rest of your hair to re coat it w/ dye.) good luck, and i'd love to see how it turns out!!! :) |

If you're feeling adventurous ;) you could try appying a bleach/lightener shampoo cap for just a couple of minutes. Try something in the warm tones and STRAND TEST. I did this when I was trying to darken my hair and went waaaayyyyy too dark too fast and it worked great. I did it without adding shampoo to the mixture, but have since learned it can make the application more gentle and less drastic. -------------
