I totally need help.  I got a great cut last night and bought a box of haircolor with the highlights kit.  I bought light natural brown, which usually is fine for me.  I have a lot of natural red in my hair, so I avoid anything with "golden" in it. It came out WAY too dark and the highlights look orange!!

What can I do to fix it?  I was thinking of buying a box of dark ash blonde and going over the whole thing.  Would that help?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

ps.  Today is my 30th birthday and I'm so embarassed to be at work with this crazy hair.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Ahh, I bet you got that Revlon box kit didn't you??  That was MY first mistake too....

My experience with ASH tones...they always ends up green over lighter shades....like your orange highlights  You may want to stop by the salon after work and get their opinion.

If you are going to do it yourself though....I would try an all over neutral color. Not ash.

Happy birthday!  Sorry you're starting your 30s with a hair disaster.

It sounds like the kit you purchased wasn't strong enough to pull enough pesky red molecules out of your hair.

To save yourself from more trauma... the best advice anyone can give is to take your birthday $ and find a good professional colorist to turn your orange highlights into the hair you really want.

I don't think you'll be happy with the results if you go over your whole head with a box of dark ash blonde.  The more you do "wrong" to your hair, the more difficult it will be to fix it in the long run.

Good luck!

Dont do it. You cant lighten colored dark hair with a lighter dye,it just doesnt work. My advice is to wash it alot or use dish soap to fade the color (or use colorfix) Wait until it fades some and then go to a hair stylist to have them fix the orangeish highlights.
