Hey y'all. I've discontinued the use of hair relaxer for 7 and a half months now, cut off all the chemically processed hair and now have 5 inches of natural hair. HOWEVER  over the past month I have discovered that my hairstrands ( some but not all) have extremely small knots in between them. I use a wide tooth comb or pick everytime , use natural boar bristle only when necessary to stimulate my scalp, use vo5 split end shampoo twice a month and cowash twice a month alternating. I also have in my arsenal of hair goodies suave coconut conditioner, blue magic coconut hair grease, optimum therapy oil, evoo, and I do resist on placing any heat on my hair because it doesn't do right so to speak.  I am also taking vitamins everyday to keep my iron up and to keep me balanced in other essential vitamins and minerals I need when I know I don't keep up with eating the stuff I'M SUPPOSED TO.  Am I a victim of scab hair or is this a new trick my hair wanted to show me? Help! P.S. I do air dry my hair occasionally slick it back with gel or wear it in an afro and I religiously wrap in a silk scarf every night and have 4a/b hair. What am I doing wrong and how do I correct this? Love y'all

How often are you detangling your hair?

If you mean small knots on individual strands, then those are part of having natural hair. They really tiny, I know.  I don't think you can really avoid them, I've been natural for over 2 years and I recently found some, after I thought I got rid of them.

I've been natural 11 months and my hair is about 4 1/2 inches long.  I find that I have knots everywhere, as you described, small knots on indivudual strands.  I wear my hair out alot (but I'm getting kinky twists in a few day). I think that will help me retain length.  I'm trying to find the answer to knots.

i would advise getting some CVS hair detangler and during a shampoo session in between the poo and conditioning- spray wet hair with the detangler along the scalp and then comb out with a wide tooth comb. Or you can pick up some Rusk Sensories Invisible kukui and hisbiscus detangler and use this after a cowash ( this is a more expensive option but gets the job done and smells good too).

Well, wearing your hair in protective styles will decrease the amount of knots you find.

Thanks! I was suprised that many other individuals have the same ordeal going on with their hair.Cmesweet-Thank you from stopping me from getting a Caesar cut...gurl it's somethings about my kinky hair I'm yet to understand. WackoSweet Ambrosia- I have been using my fingers to detangle before I use the comb or pick...maybe the comb  or pick could have done it...hmmmErmm Carameldiva-I'll add the least costly suggestion to my arsenal..shoot store brands are more economicable yet does the job like the real deal..well some of the store brandsLOLBrowndiva-tHANKS for implanting the idea of placing twists in my hair. i'm currently wearing my do rag  in a knot like I'm Erika Badu or somebody due to the dwarf  knots assaulting my hairDead..thanks and welcome to the board!Smile To some everything up I would like to encourage some of  y'all to write a book on our hair cause some of these folks ain't telling all there is to know about it especially the diagnosing, treating and styling it in one thourough yet accurate compilation.
