I was just wondering if anyone else noticed if the silicone coatings that the manufacturers just seem to love to put on the hair has caused problems with your hair extension install.

I have had problems with the I-tips shedding after a few weeks, even though I coat them all this nail glue.

I also have really noticed that when I have taken wefted hair and I am pre-tipping it myself, you can feel the oiliness and the glue doesn't want to adhere to the hair.

And apparently Mark Barrington is having these same problems with their Indian hair too.  (The get the Indian hair from Extensions Plus, which comes from Wagman).  The MB tips are pretipped with a hard plastic coating on the tip and shouldn't break down with wear, heat or anything.  For years I was able to depend on reusing this hair several times with no breakdown.  Now his tips fray apart like crazy.  His company sent out a memo stating that they are having problems with their tipping procedure, due to the excess silicone coating the manufacturer puts on.

The MB tips in the European hair still holds up fine, but it ranges $100-150 per ounce, and many clients can't afford that.

Just wondering if anyone has noticed an excess of the silicone stuff on hair.  It  appears like it is meant to deceive us in believing crap hair is really good hair.

I am pretty new to extensions, and all I have used is bohyme wefts and some wefts of Wawa and Elite thermofiber, but even on the bohyme,  I do notice the silicone. I think the silicone coating is a great deceiver, especially when buying from a "new" source. There are several sellers on ebay who have excellent looking hair (from the silicone coating), but then when people get it, as they have noted on here, once that coating washes off, it's tangly, messy crap.

It's really too bad, as most people don't even need the hair to be *that* shiny! So, I haven't had problems myself, but I agree that it is a problem for a lot of people, and it'd be nice if silicone wasn't part of the hair-selling process!

I've been in that same situation.  Lost so many clients. Now I use Spanish hair from a reputable merchant.  If clients can't afford it I warn them that the quality can deteriorate terribly.  To be honest I think the silicone coating is only half the problem.  If you but hair already on a weft anf it has a shiny, flaxen quality...and i know you won't believe me...but it's probably not hair at all but a petrochemical fibre.  I'm at present trying to take American Dream to court for selling countrfeit hair.  A good way to test is to burn it, American Dream hair will go up in flames (quite dangerous) real hair will singe.

I noticed something similar, and I thought that was a glue problem, but maybe not, maybe it's just the coating then...
I don't do fusion anymora so I am relaxed w/this now!

Yeah I just noticed the same thing with the short2long tips. My client's tips started disentegrating fast and causing shedding along with slippage. I was pissed off majoryly. So what do we do? I used the indian remy hair from Remyhairtoday and had no problems with the fusion shedding. So what do we do? If manufacturers are selling the hair with silicone on it and we have to pretip this hair then what? DisapproveHow does that affect our income???????

Almost all the hair coming out of India has had "silicone oil" treatments. Sometimes the hair even looks dirty it's so full of silicone. The logic is it will keep the hair from tangeling. Sometimes even virgin hair is a bit tangly, especially natural curly. The oil doesn't remove the cuticle, it smooths them down to prevent tangeling. I'm not sure, but it might have to wear off to come out. What about soaking the root end in alcohol?

I've taken weft tops and wiped them down with both alcohol and acetone and it didn't do anything to help the situation.

I'm afraid this issue is effecting my business.  I use nail glue over the tips and that seems to be ok for a while.  When the customer comes back and it's time to take them out and reuse it, that's when the hair totally starts to fall apart.  I have to take the time and rebond each strand before they go back into the hair.  My having to do this adds another 1-2 hours to the service.  It's a pain!

I will not order the MB Indian hair tips again either because they fall apart.  His European tips still seem to work well, but many people can't pay the price for European and they don't want to wait 2 weeks for their custom hair to arrive.

Hi Shannel,
I'm going to make a guess here, I'm not sure. I would guess American Dream is real hair with a poly coating. All the companies have a different name for it.
cross linking polymer is one name I have seen to be the most popular.

Silicone coatings on hair are always bad, cause they make you believe, that the cuticle is still intact.
But when the silicone is washed off, the hair is bad... The cuticle has been removed cause of bleaching the hair too many times, or the cuticle is not intact, and the hair is frizzy...

In my years of doing hairextensions I learned its hard to get good blond hair. But I hate the cheap asian until death bleached hair...

When I have dark haired clients, I ONLY use indian natural hair without any treatings... When a light brown clients come, I bleach the hair by myself, cause I know then the hair is good quality and remy.

Blond shades are always hard to handle, cause it takes many days to bleach them.... And all my suppliers of hair told me, they use silicone to make the hair looking healthy. But I think, it is fraud....

Tell me, why you guys always use hair from asia with silicone coatings?? Asian hair is straight, too thick for caucasian hair... It has no natural wave... I really dont understand this kind of "hype" in USA.... All Hairshops sell asian hair. Why? When I want good looking hair, I use indian or european hair, as asian treated hair is never good...

I'm sorry, but I really need to know, why still asian hair is soooo popular in USA?

By the way: some asian hair sellers mix human hair with synthetic materials...

I know Amm has great indian (colored and natural)  hair, but all the Premium strands which are provided in different shops, that is only cheap asian hair!!! You cannot wear them longer than 3 months, especially when its blonde hair...

They do not cost more than 20 cents per strand and look what you pay...

im just gonna guess that asian hair keeps being sold because some people/some where like it, and it fits into their budget...its too straight for me, but my straight haired friends prefer it over my indian hair

Thank you...

But its never so fine, as the indian hair. Last week I got an order from Burma, the hair is really babyfine, and also mostly straight. Not wavy like indian hair, but the price of indian hair. In Germany they also sell asian hair, and 3 months later they are mad cause the hair breaks and is not very nice....

So, for me: I pay once more for good hair, as buying 3 times bad hair... :-(

I also buy Indian hair, and it still is treated with the silicone coating.  If you have a good source of Indian hair with no coating, than please tell us where to get it.

Really with silicone coating? That is the typical way, how asian sell the hair. Dont buy indian hair in china....

Write me PM I have a very good seller and the prices are great. 1 kg, natural indian hair, length 24 inches plus, about 350 Dollar... I buy every 3 month about 10 kg hair from him, and never had bad experience with him... And the hair is definetly not treated or with silicone coatings....

hmmmm, I use Bohyme and its certainly not what I would consider cheap asain hair, it has held up for me (blonde) BETTER than any other hair I have every worn. I PREFER the asian hair to indian. I TORTURE hair literally with daily washing, blowdrying and hot curling irons and have worn wefts of Bohyme for over 4 months and are still in good enough shape to reuse again. The thicker diameter of asian hair is more 'durable' for me. The finer indian hair does not hold up to my abuse. For others it may work fine.

Also I wanted to point out that I have discussed the silicone issue with Bohyme, and from what Im told on numerous occassions is that they DO NOT use any silicone coatings on the hair.

I think Bohyme is too expensive for asian hair...  There are reputable seller in China who have good hair, and for bohyme you must pay also the brand....

The Bohyme looks treated, how it lays in the package, it is not natural hair. The wave looks like sooo exactly, every hair looks like the other one... I may say, they also put something on it, cause the shine for treated hair is not normal.

I also had good sellers in china, but the "trend" goes to natural hair, not treated and it bust be fine hair which is easy to handle. No extra shampoos or conditioners.... And fine hair is indian hair, and for really fine hair, its great. If you have course (my english :-( ) hair, asian hair may fit....

And why do big brands use only indian hair? Great Length, Hairdreams and also smaller brands only use indian hair....
And for good hair, I dont have to buy from a brand. Really good hair is availible at the big market for less....

Ive been burnt too many times...Ill stick with a brand that is tried and trusted. I have worn blonde extensions for over 7 years, and have TRIED just about everything out there...and some more expensive than Bohyme. I would not be still wearing it if it wasnt any good. Trust me...I have looked high and low for something comparable to Bohyme in the blonde range...I have yet to find anything.  It has nothing to do with the name, it has to do with the fact that its wears well for me.

Of course Bohyme hair is processed, as is all hair that is available in different textures and colors. It is not virgin hair, nor do they claim it to be.

Well I'm not sure where to begin.. but off the top of my head Aninnina, I do think you are generalizing a bit much here.. Not all Americans buy cheap Asian hair, not ALL name brands use Indian hair and certainly not ALL Asian hair is stick straight or over processed.. Unprocessed Asian hair is readily available, and it is QUITE lovely too.. Lastly, you are aware that India is considered by many to be a part of Asia??

That said, the "average" extensions wearer does not know Indian from Asian from Rabbit hair. For that matter there are quite a few hair stylists not just in the United States, but worldwide who also are not that familiar with the differences between the various hair being sold out there.. They do not know single drawn from double drawn and they certainly don't know the source for the hair they buy and use..

For example last Saturday I met one of the HEAD stylists from Jose Eber's salon.. and I had to help assist him in selecting hair for one of his celebrity clients. He had purchased hair from His & Hers and well.. let's just say she was having a hair crisis, and needed that hair replaced.. He did not know Indian hair from horse hair and I won't even go into the long explanation of what remy hair is that I had with him.. He really thought hair on a weft was just hair on a weft..

The point is this, just because you wear or install extensions does not mean you necessarily know about extensions hair or the quality of the product.. The women on this forum are a pretty rare exception to this however.. There's quite a bit of knowledge here from both wearers and stylists alike..

I agree, whatever hair fits that individuals budget is why there are so many brands and so many choices to make. That is why I am glad this board is here to help professionals like myself and other's learn as much as you can. Consider the fact that I am in a small town between four major cities and there are probably a handful of stylist who know anything about beautiful hair that is reusable and simply flawless. A lot of people don't see the end result that you still pay more for just buying regular beauty supply hair. All I'm saying is there would be alot  of upset BSS if more individuals knew about  quote "the good hair". So I say to each it's own and a lot of people just don't get on the internet and search learn. I guarantee you more DIYer's on this board know more about single drawn, double drawn hair than most licensed professionals. I am not putting the professionals down, but I am one of them and I sure as he** didn't know anything about any of this until I found this board. Does this company you speak of send out samples?

I really do think that Bohyme coats will silicone!  Just last week I used one of their wefts to pre-tip it myself, and I could feel the greasiness on my fingers from handling it.  I was able to use keratin glue to make tips, but Bohyme tips (at least the hand made one, I'm not sure about the 'ready made' ones) still do break down upon wearing.

Bohyme is still my favorite brand of hair though.

I would suggest that you do a you search through the past posts here.. plenty of posts here already which cover these definitions. You might also talk to your stylist about this since she's already recommended a particular kind of hair to you, she should be able to explain these definitions to you..

it doesnt bring life to anyone with all this banter back and forth and it certainly doesnt make you look good either.
