My greying hair is depressing me and I was wondering if about putting blonde highlights in to camoflage the grey a bit. I was thinking of using a cap and a permanent blonde colour as the highlight kits only lighten hair colour and I will need to colour the grey. Does this sound like a good idea or not. My hairdresser only does foils (you get 8 then pay extra for more) I dont know if this is a better way, I imagine the foils would be chuncky and obvious. Any suggestions. Thanks.

I don't think foils have to be chunky. I had them once to soften the effect of grey hair. I was very nervous and insisted that I wanted very subtle highlights. That was what I ended up with and the effect was very natural. I have to say I didn't choose blonde though as my hair has never been that colour. Since then, I have allowed the grey to come through and it is far from depressing. It is a gorgeous silver that shines and cheers me up more than any dye ever did.

Thanks for your response. I have since been to a hair salon (quite a posh one with a good reputation) and discussed my problem. We have decided on 2 darker blonde lowlights and some blonde highlights, actually I have been looking at other peoples hair and starting to like the chunky blonde highlights. I have always just done the pull through the cap thin strands, time for a change though. I have long one length hair (taken forever to grow out all my layers) and now I am going to have it cut with some layers put in! This is so that the natural curl will bounce up again as the long hair and overprocessing has killed most of my curls. Is your silver hair short? I think it looks good short but I cant stand it on my long hair.

No, it's not what I call short. It's shoulder length without layers. I spent 2 years growing out the layers, then anoher 18 months growing out the hair dye! It finally looks good, but there were some really messy times! I know a woman with waist length white hair and it looks stunning.
