Subject: How do I maintain my shrink loc install?

I recently got shrinkies installed and need to know how to maintain it.

I know that I have to use silicone free products, but can anyone recommend a good shampoo, conditioner, detangler, etc? I think everything I have has silicones in it.

Also, how can I keep it from tangling while I sleep?   I wear it in a ponytail now, but I guess I roll around so much because it becomes all poofy in the morning and I have tangles.

Thanks,

Bonnie

Silicones can actually be good for the hair. They will help the cuticle lie flat so its more manageable and shiny. And I would reccomend braiding your hair down the entire length of your extensions to keep bed head at bay.

The stylist told me not to use anything with silicones or oils because it will make the shrinkie bond slip out. She said they use oil to remove the extensions and that's why you have to avoid it in your styling products.

Thanks, I'll try braiding it at bed time.

if the hair is tangling it is not the shrinkies it is the hair that was used. try a leave in cond at the ends away from the shrinkies.

You can use silicone products on the length of the hair, just don't blob it on the scalp by the bonds.  I tell people to make a ponytail at the base of their head and from there on down they can use conditioner or silicone products.

As far as sleeping, I think braiding it would be the best bet or maybe put it up in a scruncii.

Thanks! It doesn't tangle too bad when I sleep, but I REALLY roll around a lot. I had Bohyme hair before that I'd wake with poofy tangled hair.    This is nice hair...I think it's just how I sleep.

Anyone have any suggestions for good shampoos to use with this type of extensions? Thanks!!!

Just out of curisosity, who installed them?
They should have given you a how-to on taking care of your hair.
What hair do you wear now?

i like keune shampoos, ken paves so sulfates, purology, and then i also use the cinderella shampoo and great lengths shampoo... i only condtion the lengths and the ends. on my web site is a list on how to care for extensions... the link is below. i hope it helps. before i go to bed i always brush it and put it in a loose scrunchie. also you can spray a leave in cond like catwalk fast fix to the lengths at nihjt to help combat the problem in the morning. also your stylist was right- no oil or silicone products on the "bonds" or shrinkies- they could slip out. also if oyu leave your hair oily they could slip out.

Thanks for the tips Barbielocs.

I currently use Kerastase shampoo for color treated hair (Reflection, I think).  I also use Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask.

I need a new shampoo, though.

The hair is nice.  It's Flashpoint 909 Remy hair.  Feels softer than my Bohyme ever did.  And it's really fine hair and I like that because it matches my texture more.

I haven't washed it yet, though.  Probably going to try to hold out until tomorrow morning.

Thanks guys!  :)
